Anyone using Comp Cams "High Energy" 268H?

I put a 268H in a couple of 302s back around 1980. One was in a '67 Galaxy and the other was in a 75 Maverick. It's a great little cam, perfect for a 302 or 289. Very streetable, yet a noticeable idle (especially on a 289) and a lot more power than the stock cam. With a properly sized carb...

    Car is cursed

I didn't clay the pistons as I left that to the engine builder, but I don't think a stuck valve is a good indicator of valve clearance, or lack thereof. If you mean the notch is a little close, it may be because the valve bent and struck it where it normally wouldn't.

the carnage pics I finally got around to uploading the carnage pics of the spring and piston damage.

    351W 400hp??

Just my .02, but with a 40+ year old ride and a budget next to nothing, I'd give up on killin' a Z06 and just be happy making what I had a little bit better.:p

    Car is cursed

:lol:I think you're right! Thanks for making me laugh anyway. I took pics of the piston damage and the broken spring, but the head was already shipped out. It took forever to load just the piston picture on Cardomain, and the site went down before I could get the broken spring picture...

With coilover setups, why not relocate the LCA too?

Because it's not necessary To answer your question, it's simply not necessary to relocate the lower arm because as you lower the car using the adjustable coil over, the lower arm straightens out to horizontal (or nearly so depending on how low you go) as a result. Mine are almost perfectly...

    351W 400hp??

Interesting... mine made almost exactly the same; 537HP but at 5800 instead of 6500 with the same heads. Got to have cubic inches!

    Car is cursed

I expect the valve guide will need to be replaced. Even if it's still OK now, it won't be after removing the bent valve. Seat looks OK, but until the valve is out I can't really do a good inspection. It shouldn't be anywhere near coil bind. The cam is XE282HR-12. Max lift is .574. The...

    Car is cursed

I was on my way home from this month's local Mustang club meeting Saturday when the engine suddenly started making a bad popping noise and lost power. I nursed it the rest of the way home and pulled the passenger side VC. The #2 exhaust valve spring was broke in 3 pieces. The valve was stuck...

    351W 400hp??

I think that's about as basic as a porting job could be on a SB Ford head. The High Energy line is 1979 Technology (I don't consider that modern, but still a good design and way ahead of what was available in 1969). The Magnum came later; late 80s or early 90s I believe. Xtreme energy is...

    351W 400hp??

Yes there are at least a half dozen aftermarket aluminum heads that could easily make 400hp on a 351W. However, I wouldn't count out the stock heads so fast. The 1969 Muscle parts catalog had an article in it where they built up a hot 351W using parts out of the catalog. Starting with an...

    TKO600 install

What shifter are you using? I have a TKO 600 conversion with a Pro 5.0 shifter. The handle is an original 69 4 speed handle that was cut and welded to bolt to the Pro 5.0 shifter. It shifts just fine except for reverse. Are you sure your clutch is adjusted properly? For the price it's...

C5 PBR calipers on a 70 disc spindle

My rotors are 1.25 x 12 3/16ths with an 8x7 bolt circle, which is an off the shelf size used in asphalt stock car racing. This diameter allows the C5 basket to be located on the Ford disc spindle using the OEM lower caliper bracket boss. The hole just needs to be opened up slightly. Thanks...

C5 PBR calipers on a 70 disc spindle

The late model Cobra/Mach1/Bullitt have a 1.1" rotor and a correspondingly narrow caliper as opposed to the 1.25" 'vette spec'ed caliper/rotor combo. However, yes the mounting holes are in the same place on the basket so yes, you could use the late model SN 95 PBR calipers. Unfortunately there...

C5 PBR calipers on a 70 disc spindle

I did a quick write up on the bottom of page 5 of my Cardomain site showing how I mounted the C5 'vette PBR calipers to a '70 up (or Granada) disc spindle.

Boss T/A front brake upgrade (Lincoln/Tbird calipers) thread

Sorry, unless you live down the street from a circle track race shop, they're pretty much only available through internet/mail order. I should also mention that since large wheels and tires have come into vogue on production cars, there are several new competing bolt patterns for larger rotors...

Boss T/A front brake upgrade (Lincoln/Tbird calipers) thread

I wouldn't be (and in fact am not) worried about the Wilwood pieces as being "specialty" parts. I don't know which kit you're looking at purchasing, but the kit I have uses an industry standard 8 bolt x 7" pattern to which I've bolted a non Wilwood 12.125x1.25 rotor. There are at least a...

    Weight of wheels

No, but maybe we could get people to post the weight of their wheel/tire combo. My FRPP Mach 1 style 17x8 wheels with P245-45 BF Goodrich G-force tires weigh 52.3 lbs each. I haven't weighed the rears yet (17x9 Mach 1 knock offs w/ P275-40s). I'm curious to know how much weight I added to...

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

Do you by any chance have an automatic? If yes, it could be that it is slipping and overheating the trans fluid, which is in turn rejecting the heat into the radiator. If this is the case, there is nothing you can do to the engine to get it to run cool enough.

    Flywheel/starter problems?

If you replaced it with a stock replacement from Advance, it should be the right one. The mounting holes have enough slop in them that it needs the block plate to locate it properly. I measured a late block plate opening at 4.090, and a early style at 4.135. That may be within factory...
