Gotta love new england! My throttle was frozen shut this morning. Had to use choke.

It started.....hesitantly. I had set the choke the night before, something unusual for me. It gave it enough fast idle to start then for some slow driving until the carb thawed out. I was actually more like "COOL! I've never had a frozen carb before!!!oneone"

Gotta love new england! My throttle was frozen shut this morning. Had to use choke.

So I get out this morning to drive to work...key wont go in....my locks are frozen. No problem....walk around and the passenger side lock is still operable. Crawl in and plunk down. Go to give it gas and the pedal feels really stiff. I get out, pull the aircleaner and the cable seems to be...

    Heater core comparison question

They only last 6 months because the surfaces are not painted....the core is made of lesser materials and is under pressure. This is why I recommended the tranny cooler. It IS painted, made of all aluminum so it wont rust and designed for much higher pressures than a heater core.

    Heater core comparison question

The most effective heater core I have ever used is...ironically...a stacked plate 28,000 GVW tru-cool transmission cooler. It belts out so much heat, it puts the heater core to shame and the plates are so thick they wil never rust through. Best part, they are only $80 on ebay new in the box...

    30mpg in the stang, possible?

Torturing a 5 liter mustang into getting 30 mpg is like torturing a honda to get 300hp. Both machines had an intended purpose and a design mentality. Mustangs were never meant to be economy cars and economy cars were never meant to be sportscars. The best I got after serious weight...

Storing a car outside: How to save the brakes elegantly.

New rotors for the rear are definately not cheap. Otherwise I wouldnt care as much. Its a turbocoupe rear and the brake prices are more expensive that import brake prices! It's not like the rear brakes do much to begin with....

Storing a car outside: How to save the brakes elegantly.

Thats all my folks want to see....my old highschool car sitting on cinderblocks in the backyard. "Well...he's finally gone over to the darkside"

Storing a car outside: How to save the brakes elegantly.

Back when I blew the T5 on my first mustang, I left it parked over the winter at the bottom of the driveway and went off to school for the semester car-less. When I reassembled the car in the spring, the brakes were horrible. They never did seem to "machine" themselves fully and I got pedal...

Storing a car outside: How to save the brakes elegantly.

In that case, I have no problem as I threw away the dust covers! I tried tire silicone and it has no noticable efect. It basically washes right off. I havent tried engine oil or chassis grease but I'm pretty sure that would permanently hose the brake pads (those turbocoupe rear brake parts are...

Storing a car outside: How to save the brakes elegantly.

Good day fellow mustang enthusiasts! I am approaching the time when I need to take the stang off the road and store it. Alas, there is no garage available so it needs to sit outside. Now the underside and frame are well preserved :D:D Only problem I have found with parking cars outside for...

    LOL, Now THIS is rustproofing

Ok....here is an 8 month update. As expected, the grease is holding strong everywhere but the leading edges of the subframes where it has worn off a bit. Have a look!

How much could I ask for this car?

Good evening fellow enthusiasts.... Seems like a lot of folks are getting tired of their cars lately. I guess I will add myself to the list. I just got myself a nice new daily driver (saab 9000) and I'm pleased to be able to hear after getting out of the car, not inhaling gas fumes and having a...

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

I'm kicking myself for not having them do an A/F test. I guess I was way too bummed at the time to ask for it. So now it's plug reading, watching the autometer guage and listening for pinging/feeling power or lack thereof/stumbling or bogging and exhuast sniffing.

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

Really....oh. Most of the folks I've seen talking about jetting had the jets 2-4 sizes apart. Oh well, it's easy enough to toss jets in the secondary. I'll toss some 74's in the secondaries tonight and go climb a few more hills and see if it helps. I did see a nice puff of black smoke when the...

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

Nope, it's carbed and the dizzy is a fresh accel 5200(?) series. It has no vacuum advance just mechanical advance and base timing. Makes things much easier when I know whats doing the advance. I can achieve full advance by hand revving the engine. Too bad the factory balancer marks only go up...

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

Ok, I'm running 93 ocane plus acetone now. It almost seemed like the timing was jumping around a degree or so....I curved it to do 20 degrees at 2200 rpms. I then dialed in 18 degrees base. Took it for a run, felt real powerful. So I bumped it to 24....felt more powerful. I bumped it to 28...

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

Thanks for that Thumper, you're the man. Thanks everyone else for all the advice. Wow...looks like I got a lot of work to do...tuning it in for high octane gas especially... One last question though.... almost off the subject. But lets say I tuned it properly for it's max potential...

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

Ok, I just compression tested the motor.....about 160-165 on all cylinders. They held the pressure for a few minutes each. Valves are sealing. Actually....this is the exact same cylinder pressure I was seeing before with the stock heads. Shouldnt it be a little higher now with all this extra...

Disappointment at the dyno: 227 rwhp with afr165's and custom cam

    Well, I said 400hp * .80 for drivetrain loss = about 320 . Then I did the "magazines lie" correction -20 hp = about 300 hp. Then I did the "I'm only running 12 degrees timing/87 ocane/carb not set perfectly" correction -20 = about 280.So I was expecting to see 275 or 280 realistically. Yeah I...
