Newbie with a 2001 Cobra question...

Definitely NOT stock. Mine are 3.27's and I'm turning right around 2 grand @ 70. Maybe 4.10's as that's a pretty common package?? Maybe someone with replacement greats can chime in. It's a sweet car, eh?? My formee ride was a '92 LX 5.0 and this is just a much superior all-around car.

    THE LEAKSSSSSSS

I've used gasket sealers in the past with good results. It also helps hold the gasket in place on the pan surface while you put it back up. However, I haven't used that stuff with silicone type gaskets. Some gaskets specify an RTV type sealant, too. Just check with the gasket manufacturer...

    IRS

One original question was how do you know if you have the 12 mm bolts? There is about 3/8 of the bolt coming through the nut on the front bushings. If a 12mm wrench fits on it, it's a 12mm bolt. I recently checked mine and they are the 12mm's. I plan on doing the bushing upgrade later this...

I'm becoming quite the mechanic! READ THIS IF YOUR AFRAID TO DO ANY WORK YOURSELF!

I enjoy seeing people start working on their cars. I started almost 40+ years ago now. I've pretty much done it all. Start with the easy things and slowly work up as your confidence level goes up. Get a good manual. However, with brakes, I make one suggestion. Do only one wheel at a...

trying to build my own shortblock and have ?s

You might try this outfit - their aluminum modular blocks are pretty cheap. Do a search as some have not had a particularly good experience with them, though. http://www.karkraft.com

    Getting an 01' tomorow!

You will LOVE this car! Congratulations on your acquisition. From my tag, you can tell I used to own a 5.0 LX. Totally different beast. The Cobra is just a much superior all around car. If you plan to supercharge, be careful and do a search on this forum. As the pistons are hyperuetic...

Do a search over on the Corral; only very positive experiences that I recall.

should i be worried about theft with the cobra???????

One suggestion I read about, and it's very simple really, is to lock your steering column with the wheels turned to one extreme or the other. It makes it heck to either tow it or try to get it onto a flatbed. One guy reported they dropped it after a few feet as it wouldn't track straight...

    I'm rebuilding my Trac-Lok...Question?

This may be a bit late, but soak the clutches in the fricition modifier for about an hour - man, is that stuff stinky. I had absolutely no chatter, no break-in necessary. The biggest part of the job is getting that S-spring back in. LOL

    Warranty Question..

Sticking with Ford Motorsport parts will be OK, too. Like the FR500 cat-back or headers. As long as they are properly installed, Ford would look pretty stupid voiding a warranty for their own parts. In fact I think one of their selling points is that they will not void the warranty as long as...

    01 cobra clutch prob.

I've got 28,000 on mine and zero clutch problems.

    P0135 engine code...

There's a couple of different 02 sensor removal tools. One is an offset short socket w/slot and uses a 3/8" ratchet. The other is a socket that goes right over the sensor. I find the offset one seems to work best. I think I got it at Poop Boys. Actually, unplugging the stupid things seems...

    01 Cobra problems

Bought mine used about a year ago. No problems other than the tranny "notchiness" when cold. After warming up, it's smooth. No pinging thought a few have it. Love the car!! While the 5.0 LX was light and quick, this car is "all around." Good suspension, brakes, acceleration, interior. A...

Drive line roughness after new clutch install

Another possibility - the driveine should be indexed when removing, too. The factory marks aren't always "there." I mark the driveline to the flange before removal, so it goes back the same way it came off. You might try rotating it or see if the indexing marks are still there and if the shop...

    Broken Connecting Rod?

Amen to Sanchez. It's rare that a thrown rod doesn't do some ugly damage. I've seen them go through the side of the block. At the low end, and probably unlikely, is a straight rod replacement. At the high end, the block could be trash, too. You just have to see what the damage is. Take...

    03 cobra half shafts broke

Uncle Meat - Sorry, but that's not true. The unreachable portion of the ECM constantly records; like a loop. I'm not sure what the time length is but it's more than just the last few minutes. And, it has nothing to do with "throwing codes" or an air bag going off. It's a constant recording...

    03 cobra half shafts broke

Be very careful with the warranty claim. Ford, and every other manufacturer, can reach parts of the ECM that are "black." Various things are recorded here, such as speed, rpm, abs, etc. I'm not sure how long the playback covers but if they "see" you were racing, well..... That's how that...

    Test Drove a 01 cobra

I bought mine last April with about 17,000 miles for $22,000 but it was an absolute cherry. The only thing I'm aware of is that some of them have a pinging problem. Mine does not. Love the car. I previously had a '92 5.0 and some complain of a loss of low-end torque. I honestly don't notice...

    OIL: 6 or 7 quarts ?????

My '01 has always taken 7 quarts. I've measured it at different times, cold/warm/wait 15 minuts, etc., and it's always at the full line.
