    Surface Rust on Connecting Rods

I use a wire wheel for anything like this. I keep one on one side of my bench grinder. It removes the rust and burnishes the part's surface.

    351W Stroker vs 390

You just proved my point about the 6 banger cars having a marginal suspension. ;) Thanks !!:nice:

    302 Problems

What did you set the ignition timing to ? And don't expect the motor to make power past about 4500 rpms with those heads, cause it won't. They're good for bottomend torque, but that's all. And to do a head swap, you'll run into piston to valve issues as the pistons didn't have valve reliefs in...

    This thing just won't fire

Attach the battery ground wire directly to the engine block. Make sure there's no paint at that point to interfere with the grounding. The resistor wire is the hot wire to the coil. It has a resistor built into the wire.

    picked up a v8 exploder for $500

Ford only made one hyd roller with the std firing order. And it definately doesn't lope. Lift specs are right around .400 with an advertised duration of about 245-250. But it does look like any other roller cam with "fat lobes"

Where is it connected to on the engine? Check the engine side connection and make sure it's got a bare metal to bare metal contact. If that's good and the starter still doesn't turn over, you've either got a bad solenoid or starter. I know you said you just changed these parts, but just because...

    This thing just won't fire

Do you have a good, solid ground wire from the engine block to the battery ?

    This thing just won't fire

It's going to spark some when you make contact, but should activate the starter motor when you do it.

    This thing just won't fire

Use a plastic handled (or rubber) screw driver and jump it from the positive wire terminal (coming from the battery) to the "S" terminal in the pic. Just make sure the car's in park or neutral. You can hot wire the motor also by running a hot wire straight from the positive battery terminal...

    This thing just won't fire

I know it's not applicable to his situation, but not all roller 302's use the Windsor firing order. The non HO roller motors used the earlier firing order right up til the end of the std 302 in 91 in the Crown Vic/Towncar/Marquis. Some of the late 80's T-Birds are included in this too that used...

    This thing just won't fire

No, it wouldn't keep the starter from working. But it will prevent it from firing. Is your battery fully charged ? There should also be a small short ground wire from the points to the distributor body in there too.

    This thing just won't fire

Did you replace the condenser too ? If that's bad it won't fire. The condenser is the small cylindrical device in on the breaker plate the points are attached to.

    OK, Another Hesitation Question

Checking the accellerator pump is easier just by removing the aircleaner assembly and moving the linkage while looking down into the carb throats. The instant you start moving the linkage, you should see fuel come out of the squirters. Retarded timing will also cause a hesitation. Are you...

    351W Stroker vs 390

Now the key word here is "similar". No two cars are ever alike. I can take two identical small block cars and one will always be faster than the other. The purpose of this thread was to ask which of the two would be better. And that was answered, long ago. But someone had to throw down the...

    351W Stroker vs 390

You're comparing apples to oranges once again. The six banger cars were marginal handlers with a 6 cylinder in it. And replacing one with a 302 didn;t add that much weight. You ever actually weighed both ? 6 cylinder ford engine aren't exactly lightweights

    351W Stroker vs 390

FIXT ! What was done with the original 427 Cobra's isn't a fair comparison. You're talking apples vs oranges there. They could hardly be called race cars with no expense spared.

    Broken pulley

Nothing like cheap Chinese parts to give some company a bad rep. I wonder how much money they saved in production by omitting the reinforcment in the nose ?

5.0 water pump, alternator, belts and running hot

The one with the arrow pointing to the dipstick tube boss is the std rotation cover. If I'm not mistaken that particular cover is a 69 casting (casting numbers are in another pic there) There are about a half dozen variations of this cover, but the same basic cover was used from the late 60's to...

    351W Stroker vs 390

 :bs: Driver ability is everything. Anyone have a car I can borrow ? :D And to make this work, YOU will be driving YOUR car. YOU afterall made the statement that a small block car will whip a big block car. And made the statement about me and rbohm needing to sit it out on the porch...
