for those who can't decide 3.55 vs 3.73

I made the swap from 3.08 to 3.55's and thought is was a good mod, but with the new combo, it pulls harder and longer, but doesn't feel like I want it to. I have 3.73's, but is there really that much of a difference between the 73's and 55's? I might just go 4.10's and be done with it. Hey...

Will an explorer intake be enough?

The Explorer will be great for your application. I have GT-40 irons that were mildly ported and have 1.94/1.60 valves. The lower was gasket matched to the heads, but that was it. It put down 290/330 to the tires. The intake has pleanty of potnetial. I opened up the #1 and #5 runners after I...

    Versailes 9" swap

I have a 77 versailles rear in my 66. I did the swap about 5 years ago and the car has been in storage for almost two years now. as I remember, the rearend was only 1/2 inch wider that the 66 6 cyl rear. It was a direct bolt in. I did have to have the diveshaft shortened 1 inch, but that...

Inching closer...any tricks to break 300 RWHP?

Well I guess the only way you are gonna get there is a lot of tuning, and that isn't gonna make up about 40rwhp. You are pretty much maxed out on your setup with out Tearing into the motor. Otherwise, cobra motors (or explorer motors)would be 300 RWHP motors from the factory. The longtubes...

Which year explorer intake do I need ?

If you want to retain your smog equipment, then you need the late 95 to early 97 EGR intake. These intakes came on motors that had the gt-40 heads. mid 97 and on up tp 2000 had a non egr intake and the "P" heads. The egr intake is getting really difficult to find. If you find one in the...

Inching closer...any tricks to break 300 RWHP?

This is what I meant by "porting" your exhaust. That's why it was in "quotes" Also MMFF did a TB test about six months ago and the 65 mm performed the best for E.T. wise on an aluminum Gt-40 headed motor. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Inching closer...any tricks to break 300 RWHP?

I'm in the same boat too, looking for a few extra ponies to get me to the mark. Port the lower intake, longtubes, 65 mm tb, synthetic oil, aluminum d/s, electric fan, shortbelt, etc. You *might* pick up a few hp with a 70 mm tb, but you will lose some torque, it is a tradeoff. If I...

    GT40 Heads?

Hope this can answer some of your questions. 1st, you will fail emssions miserably with the Bcam. I have mildly ported Gt-40 iron heads, with and anderson cam, explorer intake wih ported lower, longtubes, pulleys, 65mm TB, 73 mm mass air, and 24 lb injectors. I stepped up to the bigger...
