    Battery mysterious...

Just drive to Auto Zone or any other big parts store and they will test your whole charging/starting system for free while you wait. Well worth the trip.

Distilled water or "soft" water in radiator?

Distilled water has "nothing" in it whatsoever and is somewhat agressive as water is the "universal solvent". Limit it's use to your battery where it's acid only by design. You can also use water off your AC condensers which is the same thing other than maybe a little dirt. Normal home...

    front end question

Sounds like only a personal issue at this time? You would have to put it on a frame machine to fix it if an accident issue - got any buddies with a frame shop? Are you sure the backspacing on both wheels is the same? Could be simply a wheel manufacturing error? Personally I would leave...

what degree thermostat to use? 195* or 180* please help

Normally one advances the base timing up to 3 degrees to utilize the richer mixture and still not activate a knock sensor. Agree lean is fast but also can create alot of heat and damage. I prefer to err on the conservative side myself. It's not awe inspiring but a few 1/100's of a second in a...

what degree thermostat to use? 195* or 180* please help

An old racer's trick in stock class is to use the 180F or lower to fool the computer into thinking it's still cold and run a bit richer for slightly more performance. (You can get a better constant rich condition by simply unplugging the O2 Sensor wire for short drag race runs. It takes 5...

    Estimate my 347's HP

http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htm Put it together and run the numbers against these calculators. Then you will know what you have at your wheels. Otherwise buy a shelf motor that they have all ready tested and will guarantee. The answer to your question is: Zero HP as it...

revved to 6000 by accident, motor dead?

The reason they tell you to remove your floor mat at the drag strip. I launched my old car and got to 5k but when I pushed in the clutch and took foot off the gas the rpm spiked to the universe and beyond but I was able to pull it into second with a quick full throttle shift and then into 3rd...

Not as fast as it should be.

Push rods ususally don't get bent unless the valve hits the piston? The other exeption would be if a lifter overpumps from high revs for prolonged time with no load. A compression test is in order to make sure the valve is seating properly. Well yes to what you said about 7 cylinders. If...

    Need some help please

First you have a bad solenoid that's why the starter won't quit. In your "jumping" testing phase you melted something. Look at your fusible links and the battery cables themselves with an ohmeter for continuity to prove them out. If you put the jumper cables on backwards even for a second...

Car Doesnt Restart After Reaching Running Temp????

Whenever I have issues like this I take off the neg battery cable for 10 minutes to erase the memory in the computer. Run it back up to temp. Shut it off and see what happens. Even if it starts and runs Check the codes again as they will all be current ones with no old codes. I've cured...

    new motor wont start

Are you absolutely positive you aligned the crank and cam marks when you reassembled it? I'd be looking for an elephant if the other electrical/fuel stuff all worked before.

Not as fast as it should be.

There are lots of guys out there with a motor they built just waiting for the stang to drop it into. OR trade it in and let the dealer beware...they wholesale them off without even looking at a car so your conscience will be clear. I don't know if he's still around but I got a great 300HP...

    for the Turbo guys

Millhouse you are one in 500 guys who can engineer and wrench a system together that works. This person needs someone like you to build his system for him:D He needs to go really slow or have very deep pockets.

    New Radiator?

A new stock radiator for the 5.0 with two rows is available at any big parts house for AZ or Advance under $90 normally in stock. If you are going to mod the motor later on pay extra and get the 3 row radiator. You will never have to buy another one ever. HP is heat.

    for the Turbo guys

I love turbos on 4 cylinder high reving light cars. BUT you are leaving off the larger fuel pump, injectors, fuel rail, water and oil lines, intercooler and of course a new computer to run all these things properly. Your stock driveline won't handle this kind of power either. Why wouldn't...

    Overheating

Thermostats can fail in a closed or partially closed position. Hoses that are weak on the suction side of the water pump can collapse at speed. Is there a spring inside the radiator hose?

Not as fast as it should be.

The number one problem I've had in quarter mile racing is that the clock doesn't lie no matter what. The main reason my normally consistent cars would run "slow" is poor quality (or contaminated) fuel. Get the octane back up and away you go. Crappy gas and lose a whole second or two even...

    Weird Problem...I need some help...

I can almost guarantee you it's the TPS - throttle position sensor gone bad. They are generally non-adjustable and easily replaced. Can make you think the car has gone mad. You are probably running the original one like most of us.

Substitute 83-86 Convertible trim using 87 up?

Has anyone ever tried to substitute the 87-93 Quarter window Wiper trim and rear Boot holder for the 3 piece (out of production) pot metal system used from 83-86? Or is there an aftermarket pot metal or plastic reproduction? All I have found is the rivet-in outside wipers as a set. I need the...

84 convertible removing plastic heater ducts behind radio?

It took me 3 minutes to figure out what the PITA meant and then you got a good laugh out of me. That it is. Guess I'll just try to force it out and not worry about ever putting it back again? A shame that they made such a simple car to work on a bummer on a blooming radio that has such a...
