86GT AOD Overheating issue my Btu Saga!! Solved.

    1. Thermostat in backwards from PO replaced with 195F unit and flushed system. $15. Some benefit but no cigar. 2. Replaced the fan clutch = $36 no noticable difference but needed one as due to dirt stuck on face from leaking silicon = was original. 3. Replaced temperature sending unit...

Whats the weak link in my cooling system??

I just got an awesome 3 row radiator with brass (or plated?) end tanks from CJPony for $126 and free delivery fast. If they have a frequent sale you can get another -10% off that. Holds my 86GT stocker with AOD cooling attached at 180-185 even when autocrossing in 90F+ weather today. It fit...

Overheating issues solved for $0 on long trip in 86GT.

I agree as after replacing the instrument cluster voltage resister (this week) which fixed all the other gages, cleaning and replacing the sending unit in the block which corrected the wrong readings on the temp gage - I still get about an 1/8" increase in the temp reading (up to straight up...

whats the best way to trailer a fox body?

I always did an "X" front and "X" back loading the springs to make the bounce go away. I also had additional short axle straps for the rear. If you don't have "J" hooks they are pretty cheap and work well. Avoid the cloth webbing rubbing on anything. But then you aren't going very far...

5.0 Vert on Craigslist - Whats it worth?

Fleabay can be bad. Your "go to" was pulled by the owner. Unless you are close enough to go see and drive the car I say don't bother with any e list vehicle. Ebay won't insure any car over 10 years old and Craig's list is filled with strange things/people but at least they're close by...

    Stalling when AC is on

I was told the actual computer controls the idle for AC increase in rpm. So I have to think a bad/loose connection somewhere is keeping the idle from increasing when AC is on if it runs okay otherwise?

    Belching white smoke... D@mm!t

Our bone stock 93 Crown Vic with 68k miles on it has done that intermittently for years now. Only after the car sits at idle for an extended period. I notice it only when backing out of our drive and hitting the gas or after the car idled for 15 minutes wife waiting with AC on and taking off...

    Fuel Pump randomly stopped working...

+1 on this. I'm a bit surprised after 15 minutes it wouldn't even prime making me think more likely the relay or bad connection/ground as ususally a couple minutes is enough cooling time for at least a reprime. If your pump is noisy when priming (sick cow sound) or when you stand behind the...

    86 GT Convertible

I've never heard of anyone willing to shell out 12 Large for a garage to put an 86 anything in so I guess you must love this car. I just went thru the mechanicals of an 86GT conv after it sat for about 4 years in a garage. You will put $1500 into the car to make it reliable again. I still...

    Why is it overheating?

Things I've learned from this board and experience. 1. Thermostat installed backwards. 2. When running AC fan on high amp draw affects factory temp and gas gage and both move 1/4 distance higher showing hot engine and more gas in tank. This happens on both 84 and 86 cars I own. Turn fan...
