New stang owner in need of help 65 fastback

im in total agreement with dodgestang... a 351 can be stroked to 427, without the weight. loose the steel hood, swap on an aluminum intake, headers, move the battery to the trunk, and the additional heft of the 351 is null. stiffen the unibody with a set of sub connectors, (competition...

Painting the Trunk and Engine Compartment in my '65

it should be semigloss black, but if you are going the restomod route, it can be any color you little heart desires. my personal choice is krylon appliance epoxy, in the rattle can. the cool thing about it is good primer and one coat of paint, it is a semi gloss, two coats gives you a little...

    floor pan replacement question

if you use a good seam sealer (etch primer, or epoxy before you seal it up doesnt hurt, either) you needn't seal every little hole.

    AOD ?

i set mine by baumanns procedure, also, and it has about 8000 miles on it with no problems. no slack at idle is the way i would describe it, too. if it feels right shifting,(doesnt slam your head off the back window) and doesnt over rev in any gear you are really close, but it doesnt hurt to...

    What to do with a 64 1/2 "D" code 4 speed car?

why not build it the way you want it, ( 5.0, t5) and dress it out to look stock? unless you plan on an efi 5.0, you can make it look more or less original.

    Need better gas mileage...

6 mpg, thats pathetic... my 351, comp cam, 600 holley, aod with 3:00 gear got around 18 before i swapped to the 3:50 gear. now its around 15 if i keep my foot out of it. i would do a plug check, and try to jet the carb down... WAY down!

    street/track suspension help

grab a trac makes 620's that are already cut, thats what i have, and im really happy with them. you are right about the poly bushings making a bit of noise, though i wouldnt call it a big deal, you kind of get used to it. my leaf springs are eaton's ...they are called gt comp, slightly stiffer...

    Timing chain & gasket set(s) recommendations for 1972 351w

not sure about the chain, but the felpro gasket set most likely includes a sleeve in case your harmonic balancer is worn.

    what gauge sheet metal

check your local body shop supply... most of them sell sheets of 20 or 22 gauge. just DONT settle for galvanized metal. it puts off toxic fumes when welded.

    Recommendations for jumpy suspension?

x2 on the toe...i had my 65 aligned by another reputable guy, and wore the tires out at 5000 miles. turns out the toe was almost 3/4 inch toed out, it should be 1/8 total. also, dont let who ever realigns your car compensate for the crown of the road, you want it to be as close side to side as...

    Insurance

im not sure about the under 25 part, but check with grundy...im going to insure my 65 with them when the liability runs out next month, and they seem pretty good to deal with. my 65, agreed value 30,000, will cost me right around 300 per year. im 50 years old, with 1 claim 8 years ago, and a so...

I Wasn't Planning This Trip "Back East", but.......

if you are not familiar with ft. bragg, and are into seafood, have some point you in the direction of rambo's seafood (actually, i think it has some kind of cajun spelling) when i was there some years ago, they had the best seafood buffet on dry land...

    Alignment finally close to specs

i used to be the guy who would blame bump steer any time an early mustang had an alignment issue, until i took the time to do a proper alignment for myself, and i now feel bump steer gets a bum rap most of the time.the thing to remember is not to get the car close, and allow for the crown of the...

    Priming in my garage???

the other thing to remember with high metallics is that after the car is "colored", turn the gun pressure down, (20-25 psi at the gun) then reduce another cup full of color another 30%, mist the entire vehicle using a different pattern from what was used for the first coats. (i like a diagonal...

    need help with front wheels

my 17x7's are 4.5 back space... no rubbing anywhere. check your upper ball joints, my guess is that you are making contact there (you will be able to see bare metal where the rubbing is going on.) if thats the case, you could add a 3/8" spacer behind the wheel.

    Control arm shims

i initally took mine to a "reputable shop", only to trash a set of tires in 4500 miles... turned out he set the toe to almost 5/8" total (should have been 1/8") when i started the new job, i took it in and set it with the hunter 4 wheel rack we have. you can get it fairly close with nothing more...
