    go to a PPG automotive paint distributor. tell then the situation. they have a product that you can just soak rags and lay on your car. wait, then wipe off. simple as can be. i think it is called DX-40 or something like that.

    try some closed cell foam. you can get a scrap piece from an upholstery shop, usually for nothing. it is usually black, so it would be hard to see. i have several scrap pieces of different types of foam, just in case i get a rattle i want to take care of.

    i have 4.30s and consider 1st gear usable. some say the 3.55s make is useless. :shrug: can you rev it up and floor it with those gears? no, but i can still maintain enough traction on the street under spirited driving.

    if i recall, it only takes a few minutes to pop out the cluster and surrounding trim. take it out piece by piece and see which one makes the rattle.

    thanks for the info. i called the local dealer again (the shops here are worse than a dealer for service) and was told again $200. I am headed to Omaha in a few weeks, so I contacted a few to see what they quote. hopefully substantially less.
