    Clutch kit choices??

I Wouldn't call a Spec II bulletproof. I completely exploded a Stage III two years ago and the trans was fine. You can't really treat a clutch like a fuse. Most transmission damage comes from harsh engagement not necessarily the holding power.

    Clutch kit choices??

I agree with most of what you said here except for the part about staying away from Spec. Tremec and G-force warn against a Stage III Spec clutch, not all clutches they sell. It's tough to beat the release characteristics of a Spec especially at high rpms. Excellent clutches. My recommendation...

Whats a good rearend cover girdle to buy?

I know the FMS is definately a copy of the T/A. In fact T/A may even produce it for Ford. Nice design though. I went with the T/A also mostly for looks. Without the stock gas tank you can really see it from behind the car.

    piston/wall clearance

That spec should come from TRW. Manufacturer's specs vary.

Calling all guys who have rebuilt there trac loc

That's normal for a new rebuild traction lok. They loosen up after you drive them a bit. The reason you can spin your buddies is because it's been used for a while. As soon as the steels start to glaze they loosen up alot compared to what you're seeing with yours now. If you didn't soak your...

Where are you at with it? Did you check for power to the green wire with the key in the Start position? Did you find the neutral safety switch?

Yes, your MSD layout on the diagram is correct, I checked that.

    timing

I hate vacuum advance. I'd leave it unhooked and let it work off the centrifugal advance. Set it at about 36 degrees at 5000 rpms and see where the initial falls when you let it back to idle. It'd be nice for you to pick up an MSD Dizzy. They're easily adjustable whatever curve you want and no...

They only make reference to it on page nine. Not much for directions though are they?

The neutral safety wiring is right in the trans tunnel. I bypassed that on mine too. Don't remember the wire colors I just worked through it with a test light.

    Engine wiring carbed

The clutch switch is easy to find. Just follow the pedal up, the switch is right on top. I bypassed mine cause it broke. Thing was always a pain anyway.

    Engine wiring carbed

I'm not sure how you have it hooked up. I would think the Painless harness wouldn't bypass the neutral saftey though. When you tried to start it did you have it in neutral with the clutch pedal depressed?

    Engine wiring carbed

If you want to start it, just turn the key on. (Make sure you're in neutral) and touch a screwdriver from the battery post on the solenoid to the s post. It'll crank and fire up unless there's other wiring issues.

    timing

Don't set it for base timing, set it for total advance and let the base timing fall wherever. I locked my advance out on my dizzy and I set it at 3000 rpms and then check it at 7k. Mine loses 2 degrees past 5k so I set it at 38 at 3,000. 36 is what my car runs best at. The initial doesn't...

    2 questions unrelated

It sounds like you have too much freeplay in the clutch. They should be set snug to get proper release which will give you a pretty high pedal.

    Engine wiring carbed

If you're not getting power to the green wire with the key in start position, it could be that your neutral safety switch and/or clutch switch isn't hooked up.

    Engine wiring carbed

First off you need to find the wire in the painless harness that's supplying 12 v in the start key position with a test light. That should hook to to the s terminal on the solenoid. Looks like the green wire on your diagram. Start with that. You could start it by tripping a screwdriver from the...

    Engine wiring carbed

Turn the key on and check the small red with a test light. Unless you just haven't tried the ignition yet. Not sure if "Nothing from the engine yet" means you tried it and it won't work or you haven't tried it yet.
