Congrats on the new record, Shawn, John, and Mike. :)

Do all 99+ Cobras use the same clutch?

99 and 01's are the same. 03/04 is the same disc with a slightly stronger pressure plate. FYI....my stock 11" clutch went well into the 11's with zero problems.

    Engine is shot

We pulled my stock 99 Cobra motor this past winter when it had ~74k miles on it. Lots of highway miles, lots of city miles, probably over 150 1/4 mile passes, a few missed shift leading to 8000 rpm over-revs, and one 3rd gear to 2nd gear powershift (oops), letting the motor go who-knows how...

TorqueFreaks with my new 1.7 rockers for my "stockish" 5.0

1.64 is an AWESOME 60 ft for a stock motored 5.0. Disregard my useless advice, please. :)

Motor Trend says we lose to the vetee...just a little

12.4x is the quickest I've ever heard of in 100% bone stock trim (nothing removed, changed, or added). In addition to Evan Smith, a guy name Kenneth Risher went 12.47 @ 113 this past spring up in the Midwest. I'm going to keep mine stock till this winter for the sole reason of trying to beat...

TorqueFreaks with my new 1.7 rockers for my "stockish" 5.0

LOL. Perhaps it's just the pic angle? I used to run air bags in both sides. Passenger side ~22 psi, driver's side ~6-7 psi. Air bags are often overlooked, but are a cheap and easy way to really help a car hook and launch straight. I pull high 1.5's on DRs in my 99 Cobra all day long...

TorqueFreaks with my new 1.7 rockers for my "stockish" 5.0

Believe it or not, a hard, smooth powershift will help both ET and MPH. I see an easy 2 mph difference between grannyshifting and powershifting. PS....put an airbag in your passenger-side rear spring and air it up to ~22 psi. :)

    Engine is shot

Not necessarily, though forced induction is the easy way to big power. Sure. There is no reason a stock, aluminum 4.6 Cobra block cannot reliably make 800+ RWHP without failure. NOTE: I'm talking about the block, not the pistons or rods that one might use. The extra ~100 lbs that the iron...

    Engine is shot

Quick addition....there are some stroker kits and big bore kits out there. However, none that I know of have been proven reliable over the long run. Not saying they aren't or won't be, but I haven't seen any go a lot of street miles yet.

    Engine is shot

The stock 03/04 Cobra shortblock is very stout and very reliable, however, it's not bulletproof, and probably isn't the best choice for someone that is going to replace their motor anyways. There are a few reasons, among them the block. 03/04s use iron blocks that are almost 100 lbs heavier...

TorqueFreaks with my new 1.7 rockers for my "stockish" 5.0

LOL. It's too bad you're a leftist, bleeding heart liberal. If it weren't for that, you'd probably be a pretty good guy. LOL. Ya ok. I just step on the gas and pull a little black lever. The car does the rest. :nice: WANNA_BE_GT....you looking for my mods or someone...

TorqueFreaks with my new 1.7 rockers for my "stockish" 5.0

http://members.cox.net/bobcosby/stang/12sec.html :) FYI....I made 237 RWHP running 12.5x @ 106-107 mph at a raceweight of ~3150 lbs. This was before the days of tuning on the dyno. The dyno run above was made prior to a head/cam swap and dyno tune.

    5.4

Yes, it sounds quite crazy (not impossible, but not even sort of easy). To do all the things you are talking about doing will require serious cubic dollars - to say nothing of time and effort. In addition to the motor, everything else in the drivetrain will have to upgraded. Everything...

5.4 or 4.6 for my new drag car?

Kirkyg....you ever met Al? I doubt it, seeing as you likely race little more than your keyboard. That being the case, you are totally clueless about the man. He probably told you like it was. You wanted to hear something rosie, and didn't like it. You're in South Texas? I have a...

5.4 or 4.6 for my new drag car?

Bwahahahahahaha. There are a couple of really funny people here. kirkyg, you and CuddaWuddaShuda need to go get a room at the local Super 8 Motel and start filming. I here there's lots of money in those kind of homegrown films. Drew...your goals are not real hard to achieve. There are...

LOL. Took a couple of days, but you finally broke, penile-extension boy. If you thought I was a nice guy, Jeffrey, I'd be worried. Ah, poor Jeffrey. Yes, it was all my fault. One only needs to read those threads (and this one) to know that. So sad. LOL. I think you're right...I'm...

Mr Candi....I'm not going to flame you, rather, I'm going to educate you. Please grab a glass of Kool-aid (I assume your Mom made some this morning) and sit down for the lesson. K? Cool. Color me truely sad. The GT Mustang is not as fast as the LS1 twins, but it is still a solid, quick...

    Make me smoke LS1s

Hey, now that's original! Never seen that before! Ok. Whatever. BTW....I had a .603 lift/.23x duration cam in my daily driver 5.0. With speed density. And 4.30 gears. Ran 11.9s on stock heads/intake. Wanna make unfounded stupid statements about that, too? Please. Hello Capt...

coughgearingcoughconvertercoughdrivercough Oh. Sorry. ;) BTW...haven't one or two folks claimed bone stock 11.7x times out of their Z06s? Prices for used 2002's are coming down quick...quite temping!
