Ok, ready for some more help with my clacking engine..

ok thanks. i do understand the concept of how it all works, but i just don't understand why on the passenger side, they all are lined up perfectly (you can see in one of the first pics posted), but on the drivers side they aren't... just seemed odd to me.

Ok, ready for some more help with my clacking engine..

just have the stock oil pressure guage, but it sits where it always has, around the "O" to "R" on NORMAL. Had the engine rebuilt about 2 years ago, with new bearings, new timing chain, and new oil pump. This happened after about a 5k rpm in 5th gear pull

Ok, ready for some more help with my clacking engine..

ok well here's a pic of what i'm talking about... oil pressure was normal (drove it almost 400km sounding like this!), there was oil on top of all the rockers. if you look at the passenger side pic i posted in the first post, all the rockers line up, could put a straight edge across and touch...

Ok, ready for some more help with my clacking engine..

ok well it has finally stopped snowing and we actually had a nice day here today. so my next question is: are all the rockers supposed to be at the same angle? i suspect the noise is coming from the drivers side, and the rockers on that side are not lined up, but on the passenger side they all...

how hard to replace oil pan

the actual pan is leaking? or could it just be a gasket? it is possible to change a gasket without pulling the engine. and yes there are 2 oil drain plugs.

    pullies

belt length is so hit and miss. just measure it yourself, get a couple belts within .5" inch of one another, and be done with it. just make sure you remember they will stretch a bit so use the tightest one within your tensioner range. and aluminum pullies will leave alum. residue on your belt if...

lower intake bolts where do the 2 different ones go?

are they just different lengths? or do they have different heads on them? i have my upper off right now, so i could check/or take pics if that helps, tomorrow, (its dark and cold and snowing right now....) not sure what you need, but if there is a specific pic you'd like, just say what and i'll...

Smog Pump & Charcoal Canister Questions

it'll stick out a little bit, i think thats all i could find also, mine sticks out like 3/4" maybe, but where they are, you never see them so it doesnt bother me. it'll work. i had to thread them in almost like using a tap, back and forth. seems like they don't fit but they will, just a lot of...

Smog Pump & Charcoal Canister Questions

plug the vac lines, 5/8" 11 tpi bolt will plug the back of the heads, or a spark plug, or you can cut the blocks off the tubing, flip them, and bolt them back on. i don't like the idea of removing my evap system... some will argue, but if you park in a garage, i'd be a little weary, and if you...

Ok, ready for some more help with my clacking engine..

ok. well i've never done this before, what do i need to know before i take off the rockers? do them one at a time then put them back on as i go? i'm guessing order matters? i'm sure i'll need a torque wrench, right? someone told me today about having to use a feeler guage for something? sorry...

Ok, ready for some more help with my clacking engine..

Thanks for the help so far. thought i'd start a new thread to keep it simple without all the stories. Here's the video that shows how it sounds like a diesel engine, then some pics(i have more if it would help, also)with valve covers off. My question is now what? I didn't find anything obvious...

Painting Upper intake, valve covers - Tips?

I'm going to have my upper intake and valve covers off today i hope, so i figured i might as well clean them up a bit and maybe hit them with some high temp spray paint. Is this a bad idea? Can i just give them a light sanding or should i get down to metal? I won't bother if its going to look...

ASAP pls! Nasty noise, happened out of town, Broken rocker?

really!? i thought it took a lot longer than that to take off an intake. never done it before, but always just thought it was a pretty big job. i'm not driving it anymore, and won't until its fixed. it actually seemed to run fine when i drove it home, just really noisy at certain rpms

ASAP pls! Nasty noise, happened out of town, Broken rocker?

i know i know, but i'm on a really tight time frame here, need to move out by the end of the month but still need to fix this, and have a pile of final exams comin, startin tomorrow morning.... i'm sure something is smacking the valve cover, so a rocker is my best guess. and i figure even if i'm...

ASAP pls! Nasty noise, happened out of town, Broken rocker?

UPDATE! Just made it home! :nice: But now my question is... what did i screw up by driving it like this? Almost 400km, drove fine except for the noise (like the halfbreed child of a Peterbuilt and a sewing machine), sounds the same as before the drive.... i'll try and get a video with sound up...
