Is this a good block to start with?

On the top-rear of the block, behind the lifter valley, there is a flat pad. On that pad was stamped the last eight of the VIN of the vehicle that the engine was in. If that can be posted I can tell you which vehicle it was in.

    Fox Body Data Tag Decoder

It is the only 88 Mustang hatchback with an engine block heater that also had all of the items above it (LX, hatchback, 5.0L, AOD, 1C paint, FD trim, sunroof, 2.73 LS, and electric mirrors).

    Fox Body Data Tag Decoder

"Stock" (order type code 2) and "Stock-Dealer Demonstrator" (B) are two different order types. Now whether a dealer used the car however they pleased after they took delivery is unknown. But "stock", according to Marti, is a dealer order for 'display' at their location, probably on the sales...

    Fox Body Data Tag Decoder

There are over a couple dozen order types but the most common are 'retail' (code 1) or 'dealer stock' (2). SSPs are almost always one of several 'fleet' order codes (4, 5, 6, 9, C, L, etc). The order type code is in position 22 in the VOI (the blue lines of codes) on deluxe reports. Marti...

Electrical Foxbody Mustang: Adding Check engine light to 86-88 cars

1986 (and older) have four 'dummy lights' on the left portion of the instrument cluster bezel. Once of them (Upshift indicator - third from top) is unused in 1986 so you could use that for an MIL. You could even make it an "Engine" indicator if you got the indicator panel from an earlier...

COULD I HAVE THE LAST BLACK 5.0 LX MADE???

Article says 8-25 but the show board for the car says 8-26, and the owner has stated 8-26 many times. EDIT: Marti report for the car also states the actual build date was 8-26.

COULD I HAVE THE LAST BLACK 5.0 LX MADE???

A Marti "report" will not give you the answer you're looking for. You will have to get them to do 'custom research', if they can even do that to answer your question. Last date of production was 8-26-93.

    Fox Body Data Tag Decoder

1988+ buck tags do have a date on them but that is the scheduled build date. It is not necessarily the actual build date. There is no way a Marti "report" is going to tell you what you're asking. You would need to pay for custom research. Call and ask if they can do it.

38 Years later I can’t find proof this Cobra existed

The hood decal was optional in all three years.

38 Years later I can’t find proof this Cobra existed

Light Pewter Metallic (1E) was a Pace Car-only paint color in model year 1979. All 1979 Pace Cars had that paint and no other 1979 Mustang had that paint. The 1979 Cobra could have Silver Metallic (1G) paint and Cobra decals in black, bright red, and orange if ordered with black or red interior.

So I picked up an '88 302/AOD from a Crown Vic and an Explorer EFI setup w/ harness and computer...

The question was Panther engine with Explorer harness and ECM. Not Panther engine with Panther harness and ECM. Your statement that there is no difference in harnesses between H.O. and S.O, (non-H.O.) is BS.

So I picked up an '88 302/AOD from a Crown Vic and an Explorer EFI setup w/ harness and computer...

There most certainly is a difference. This is an sequential fuel injection system, not TBI, CFI, batch fire. The ignition system is also sequential. The EEC module and harness (all of it, not just pieces of it) must match, and the cam must also match. No, you cannot just re-pin the injector...

    Mexican made Mach1 1972 or a 1973?

VIN decoders for US built Mustangs don't work for those built south of the border. The VINs are totally different.
