    Ticking noise with new engine

I went ahead and purchased some taller valve covers this afternoon. If that doesn't fix it I guess I'll pull the intake and replace the lifters and pushrods.

    Ticking noise with new engine

But wouldn't either of those still cause the ticking noise when the car was running with the valve cover off?

    Ticking noise with new engine

I just put a new crate engine in my 86' GT. It's a 306 w/ flat top pistons and large valve reliefs (plenty of room), ported GT heads with larger valves and an e303 cam with stock rocker arms. The first time I started it up I heard ticking coming from the passenger side valve train. The ticking...

    What are these?

I am assuming they are there to keep the lifters in place when the engine was shipped. So, I took them out.

    What are these?

What are these plastic things on the lifters? They resemble the dog bones, and the spider holds them down, plus there is a hole for the pushrods. I'm just wondering if these are okay or should I put the original dog bones back in? Please ignore the bad picture quality. I compressed it a bunch...

    Please Post Your Gas Mileage

I average 17-18 mpg in town. One time I tried really hard to get the best possible mpg in town and got 19 mpg. On the highway I initially averaged 24 mpg, but after the addition of a K&N FIPK I jumped up to 26 mpg (both at 70 mph). That got me wondering what other mods I could do to bump up...

where can i get rubber intake deals?

If you're talking about the silicon hose that connects the CAI and throttle body it can be difficult to find. I used to buy it at the local big rig diesel dealership parts counter. They carry it because it is used to connect the tubes from turbo to intercoolers on diesels.

Question for those with a Flex-a-lite electric Fan

Yeah, I got instructions off of the web, but I didn't see anything mentioned in them about the probe.

Question for those with a Flex-a-lite electric Fan

Okay, so I fooled around with it more today and I think I have a hypothesis about the cause of the problem. First here's what I did. I removed the radiator cap and placed a kitchen meat thermometer in the radiator and started the car. I let it heat up while monitoring both the water temp and...

Nevermind, I see that your heads are awaiting installation.

Question for those with a Flex-a-lite electric Fan

Thanks, I'll try that and see how it works. By the way I see you have TF Heads on your 86' did you have to cut valve reliefs in the pistons?

Question for those with a Flex-a-lite electric Fan

I purchased a flex-a-lite electric fan for my 86' GT and I'm unsure where to put the radiator probe for the fan's thermostat switch. There is a spot on the fan control box that it fits in I had been running it there. But today I replaced my non working stock water temp. gauge with a new...

    all new brake lines?

Are you planing on going with an SN95 setup? You didn't say. If so you can use the stock lines, you just need a brake line cutting or bending tool as one of the lines needs to be a bit shorter. I don't remember which on though. Alternatively, I bought a set of new lines off of ebay for around...

    Loose Steering (Everyone Read)

There are two different problems that cause the steering column to be loose. One occurs with tilt columns there are two screws or bolts (I forget which) somewhere inside the column that require removal of some of the pieces on the steering column to tighten them. This is not a problem on...

Replace K&N CAI with something more popular?

Check out this article on a cold air kit comparison for 2005 and up GT's. It was in 5.0 mustang magazine earlier this year and it should help you make your choice. http://www.mustang50magazine.com/techarticles/m5lp_0601w_cold_air_intake/index1.html Several tested at around 7-8 hp increase over...

    Auto to Manual Conversion

This is a link to an article on the swap. I'm not sure if you can access the whole article without a subscription, but I know one of the car magazines did an article on it last year and a search will probably come up with the info on it. By far the hardest part is the pedal assembly. Everything...

    Lower Control Arms

I have Granetelli upper and lower rear control arms. They significantly stiffened up the rear end and eliminated the wheel hop. They have been on my 86 for 2 years, and I really like them. I'm sure there are some out there that cost more and have a better name, but if you go with the...
