CONVERTERS: lock up vs non vs confusion

An AOD itrans lgoes in to Lock up in 3rd and OD. If the load increases in OD, it will down shift to 3rd, but stays locked. If in 3rd and load increases, it will down shift to 2nd. The AOD does not lock or unlock depending on load. For a daily driver a lockup converter is the best choice...

CONVERTERS: lock up vs non vs confusion

The amount of differance in RPMs at cruising between a lock up and a non-lockup is less than 500 rpms. The lockup AOD has lockup in D and OD. The Non-lockup will pull stronger since you still have torque multiplication in 3rd and OD. The other advantage is the Non-lockup can use a 1 piece solid...

    Fuel Injection to Carb Conversion!

Good choice. If your engine was setup for 7,000 rpm peak power, the Vic Jr and 750 would be fine, but both too much with your build. The performer/650 ishould do great.

    engine swap

With the amount of work involed, I would either find a Stang around the same year with a 5.0 in it, then swap any things from yours to it that you want, then sell the 4 cyl car. The end results would be the same, with much less work and money. If you must do a swap, do a 351 swap and have a...

    car runnin way too hot!

It is your fan most likely. I have a 393 stroker with a 3,500 RPM stall speed converter. I drive it on the streets with no over heating at all. I have "2" B&M 24,000 GVW trans coolers in front of the radiator to keep the trans from over heating, and with all that heat and the heat from the...

    STILL got overheating problems..help me

No track times yet on it, BUT it sure feels strong. Since the car has been redone from front to rear, I am just taking my time and getting some running time on it. I only have the headers, and pipes to the rear of the trans now, so no driving out side of the area where I live. I need more...

    STILL got overheating problems..help me

I have also seen a lot of cooling systems that did not get all of the air out with one try. I used just tap water the first time on mine to make sure there wasnt any leaks. After I was sure it was OK, I drained and flushed it a few times, then got 8 gals of distilled water. I would remove the...

    STILL got overheating problems..help me

The fan clutchs just plan suck. When you need the most from the fan, at stop and go traffic, they just do not move enough air. Since you are fine when on the road, and only run hot when in traffic or idling, it is a air flow problem. The cure: A Mark VIII, Ramcharger, or large Spal fan...

    AOD STALL CONVERTOR questions

The stall speed should be tied to the engine combination. It should be about 500 RPMs below the engines max torque RPM for best performance. If you select one above the max torque RPM, you will be missing out on the max torque that helps to launch the car. If too low of a stall, the car has to...

vaccum secondaries -vs- mechanical... throttle response

Vaccum secondaries are much more forgiving if you put a too large carb on, and they can be made to open the secondaries at what ever vaccum you wish. If the car is street driven, and not a standard trans, or 3,000 or above stall, you are better off with the vac carb.

all that sticky tar stuff on the floor boards?

I removed the tar stuff in my Tbird last month. I used a heat gun, and putty knife. Make sure to wear a glove on the hand that the putty knife is used with, or you will have some serious blisters. I weighed the bucket of it when done, and had 35 lbs. I had already removed the trunk floor when I...

Too much carb for my car?

I would have selected a 650 DP, or a 750 with vac secondaries. You can get by with a oversized carb with vac seconds a lot easier, since if the engine is not pulling enough vac to need them opened, they will not open. You may be able to put a 650 throttle plate on it to band aid it if needed...
