    Idle surges then engine dies

    My 87 would do the same thing... it would idle fine when just sitting there but when i turned on the lights it would start surging....the problem was a bad vacume line... after 35 cents at autozone it was all better. Have you checked all the vacume lines?

    But what explains the poping when i accelerate in gear and the sluggish acceleration it just seems to not have any power? and i can rev it up just fine in neutral

    i dotn know how to check if it is pre igniting... and i went to auto zone to get my codes checked and after the guy hooked up the reader it started smoking... then he tried a new reader and it smoked as well...

    So i turn my car off and it just keeps running for a few seconds and i dont know y it just started a few days ago. Also when accelerate in gear it kinda studdars a pops a little bit a little bit between like 1500- 4000. and it feels like there is no power but it only does this when its in gear...
