    Parking pawl problem?

    I'd be very surprised if the pawl or ring gear were damaged. Your most likely culprit is a loose retaining nut inside the case allowing for slop in the shifter. Also check the case bushings where the shifter assembly rod exits the case

    No matter which kit you go with, don't get a top end kit designed for a 351 or you will only make 351 power. IMHO a custom cam is the key to getting the exact performance you are after...start there and let the cam designer pick your top end kit. Add me to the list of sbf tech dot com disciples.

    Anybody running a 8.8" rear out of an explorer in their 67-70 stang?

    Sounds like a lot but it's not really very bad. I gave the rearend to a shop and $900 later, it came back just like new including powder coating and new axles. The e-brakes are a work in progress, I'm going to use the ebrake cables that came with the rearend

    synthetic oil

    Synthetic oil has detergents that will remove old gunk that could be plugging an oil leak. I switched my '67 vert with 115K miles to a synthetic blend without any problems.
