how well do the factory trac loc's work

On a road course, the traction lock clutches wear out pretty quickly. Mine lost preload (a la pegleg) in about 5-6 open track events behind roughly the same horsepower as yours. That seems to be pretty common among others I've spoken to driving at similar tracks. I went with a True-trac this...

    Re-torque aluminum heads......

The Holley instructions with my aluminum systemax heads didn't say they needed to be retorqued, nor does Fel-pro's literature say anything about it. I've run for three years with 9psi from an S/C. In the old days, retorquing head gaskets was a common procedure, but I haven't seen anything...

i cant bleed these brakes for the life of me! Non mustang help please!!

A handheld vacuum pump applied to each bleeder screw, in lieu of a helper pumping the pedal, has become my favorite, nearly fool-proof method for bleeding brakes (which I do often on my track car). Look for a Mity-Vac at the parts store of your choice and follow the directions that come with...

Should I swap my t5 out while the engine's out? Or just see if it lasts?

The Cobra T-5 I had in my '65 behind a blown 306 making 445rwhp lasted about 2-years. That's more than I'd originally expected. In that time, it never saw a drag strip, ran on street radials, and did maybe 8-10 open track events. One day on the street (not on a track), while shifting into...

How to identify rearends & Differentials

Steve has the best (imo) compilation of info on the Ford 9-inch at this link: http://www.ultrastang.com/ There's also an excellent discussion of the True-Trac at corner-carvers here: http://forums.corner-carvers.com/showthread.php?t=4246&highlight=true-trac

National Parts Depot has a set - contains all of them for the car and costs a few bucks.

    What Headers with Unisteer R&P?

I've got JBA shorties in my '65 (see sig), but they required the double-joint setup on my Unisteer R&P to get the shaft around them. It works well - no complaints - but the extra setup during installation was a minor hassle.

To Roll or Not to Roll That is the Question

To Roll or Not to Roll That is the Question

The 17x7s on the front of my '65 with similar suspension mods as yours, and 235/45R17 rubber, sometimes hit the inner front fender lips, but only when I'm on it very hard in corners at the track. They never hit during street driving, and I'm sure they wouldn't on a drag strip. If you're...

    9" traction lock question

Even with new clutches, use a short pry bar, and you shouldn't have to grunt too much. I found it surprisingly easy to turn the first time I did it on a freshly-rebuilt unit with new clutches. If you do feel a lot of resistance, something's wrong - stop before you break anything.

    9" traction lock question

You need to line up the pinion gears inside the differential - they are probably cocked just a bit so that when one axle is aligned, the other is hopelessly misaligned. My initial traction-lock install did exactly the same thing. Have a helper prevent one wheel from turning on the side that...

Global West vs Control Freak Suspension

bnickel -- I originally attempted to mount 17x8 TTII with 4.75" backspacing, mainly because those measurements seem to work for most 65-6 with the Shelby drop. It wasn't just interfering a little - like just brushing - but a lot (I never bothered to estimate how much, but it wasn't at all close...

Global West vs Control Freak Suspension

I've had the Global West control arms on my '65 for about three years. It sees 6-8 track days a year, and they've performed well. Manufacturing quality is visibly quite good - no complaints. The only caveat is that they seem to leave a bit less clearance for a 17x8" front rim (rim hits the...

Engine Cuts Out When I Gun It

It sounds like a bad accelerator pump, at first blush. With the engine off, and air cleaner off, look straight down into the carb (open the choke manually if you need to). Open and close the throttle. You should see a healthy stream of liquid gasoline squirt into the carb, just below the...

05 GT warranty expires in 3 weeks

    - Rear end moan (clutch-pack replacement - multiple TSBs on this) - Fuel tank update (won't fill correctly or completely - applies mainly to early '05) - Fuel sender defect (gauge sometimes reads empty when tank is full - engine light comes on) - Throttle body / throttle by wire operation...

    T-5 Conversion issue

If you're willing to drop a few $, JMC has a ready-made kit for the 94+ trans that I've had working for past ~3 years. It works well and bolted right up. Call them directly - that's how I discovered that the piece even existed.

    T-5 Conversion issue

+1 -- The 94-95 trans fits perfectly - no cutting of the shifter hole required. You'll have to fab something for the trans mount (I used the Fox trans mount for the '65 and modified it - pretty simple).

EFI blower conversion done - Off for a Dyno tune now!

I ran my car hard for two years (mostly open-track and HDPE, meaning that it experienced extended WOT - more than drag racing) with the stock ignition kept in good shape. Once I set the plug gaps, I never had a problem with it again. I don't know if the MSD box will allow you to run larger...
