t5 swap - mid project questions

If the driveshaft is bottomed out in the transmission with the rear wheels off the ground, you've got a problem. You're going to need to shorten it to allow some travel into the transmission as the rear suspension compresses.

t5 swap - mid project questions

If you still have the shifter out (or even if you have to remove it), you can fill from inside the car through the shifter hole. It takes a few seconds to drain into the case from there, so you fill, then wait, fill, then wait, but it beats crawling around underneath with hoses and funnels...

    a/c and p/s delete

Check post #20 in this thread. I've got a similar setup and it works fine (the one in the picture sure is pretty though!). http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=618861&highlight=serpentine

King Cobra clutch feels quite heavy

I found the King Cobra pp to be quite light - feels nearly stock with a JMC hydraulic clutch setup (sorry, I don't know the master and slave bore sizes off hand).

Why is my engine running rough?

It's common for corrosion inside the fuel lines (and tank) to plug or partially plug the fuel pickup, filter and lines, especially after sitting for a while. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump, tank and carb, clear both lines out with compressed air (contain the splashing fuel, of...

    T5 swap - specific questions...

I've had the Astro A-5 in for just about long enough to break it in (Tony recommends 500 miles, which seems like a lot). I'm taking it to the track (road course, not drag strip) on Monday, but have been driving it frequently on public roads. So far, so good. While it was initially pretty...

fr manual rack installed...should it feel like this?

Because of interference issues with my headers, I wound up using a third u-joint with a carrier. Having a third u-joint lessens the angle at each joint, by splitting the total angle between three joints instead of two - even with three, it's not far from binding. However, I see absolutely no...

fr manual rack installed...should it feel like this?

Here's a figure out of the Unisteer installation instructions that might be helpful (you can find the complete set at www.unisteer.com if you think it's worth looking at). The Unisteer shaft is keyed as well - two flats and two radiused sides - but the u-joints are set up such that they can be...

fr manual rack installed...should it feel like this?

I installed a Unisteer r&p, not FR, but the same physics should apply. Unisteer was very specific about orienting the u-joints, such that they're 45-deg out of phase. In other words, the top U-joint should be rotated 45-deg from the bottom one (I'm assuming a similar setup to the Unisteer with...

For my Paxton Novi 1000 in an EFI '65, I fabricated my own discharge tube from some stainless steel exhaust pipe, which ended up working well.

How do I plug the dip stick hole?

1/8" NPT works great. Just tap it and thread in a 1/8" NPT brass plug.

Can a T5 be rebuilt to handle more power?

Some of it is well-deserved. Mine grenaded last week after seeing only street and open-track use (it's never even been on a drag strip!), easy shifting and DOT tires. It's behind a fair amount of horsepower, but I'm just sayin... :D :D

Possibly a differnt T5 swap problem?

Not precisely the same setup, but I used the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) on my '95 transmission to drive a Dakota Digital speedo. The speedo basically just counts pulses, and displays a speed based on the calibration that you set (follow wife's car at steady speed, reporting to one another on...

    EFI Troubles, Help!!!!

Once the engine starts, the fuel pump should be on continuously. You said it's 'cycling.' A helper should be able to hear the fuel pump running - it only needs to turn off for a fraction of a second to kill the engine (not like a carb!).

    90 efi wiring diagrams

This is the best EFI wiring manual I've found - it's the one Ford Racing published for their aftermarket EFI wiring harness, but I believe it's a perfect match for 90-93 wiring harnesses. It's what I used to wire up the '92 EFI in my '65. Hope it helps...

    steering shaft movement

Yes - that's the bushing, and yes it's supposed to be split. I think Stanger53 is right - the spring doesn't look like the right one. The spring is supposed to maintain preload between the steering wheel and the bushing, forcing the bushing to seat. See how it's tapered? It has to seat to...
