    ONE MORE TQ CONVERTER THREAD

Art Carr Does not build their own converter for 4r70w's They buy PI singleplates and repaint them. Buy one and scrape some black off to find the pink. Alan

    AOD guys valve body choices

I agree completely with the lentech valvebody. nothing else compares. As far as the converter goes I will oddly suggest the edge unit or similar built to use the 1 piece input shaft. being a converter builder I am very familiar with the products edge builds because they are sold by sonnax. The...

Modifications to stock converter (kinda long read)

For the least amount of parastic loss you need to remove weight and diameter and have a very strong lockup. If lockup slips that is loss. Modifying a 12 inch stock converter over about 2200-2400 stall is called butchery. To do it requires removal of the back side of the stator which will cause...

Adapting to 11.4 inch torque converter bolt pattern

The selection you are thinking is good actually sucks. It will actually be a downgrade from your stock unit. If you really want to run one get a flexplate from ford. There are 4 options in flexplates. 6 bolt, 11.250 pattern or 10.625 8 bolt same options. 3.8 converters are all 11.250 pattern...

What do I need for tranny/rear diff./gear fluid?

Prolly not what you want to hear, but I would suggest GM syncromesh fluid in that transmission and only suggest motorcraft synthetic 75w140 with ford friction modifier for an oem style limited slip differential. Alan

What torque converter do you run????

Edge converters for a 4r70w are crap. The lockup piston is a stock 245mm gm found in cars like cavaliers. The piston is thin and small with weak springs. The front cover is stock gm245mm crap as well. The stock converter in these cars is a better unit. Now if you are dealing with an aod or c4 I...

    gear debate

Manuals are a toss up between 3.55 and 3.73 for me. Auto's I generally vote 4.10's but the gas mileage of 3.73 is better. On the other hand I am going 4.30's. Richmond makes the 3.90 gear. Motive makes all the frpp gears now. I have used motive gears several times and never had a problem. Alan

What torque converter do you run????

The converter in my car now is a unit I built when I was building converters. It's a 3500 stall unit that is 10 inches in diameter. Avoid any converters that claim big stall numbers with 11 inch or 12 inch converters. Generally the 10 inch units are good to about 3800 stall(max). 9.5 units are...

    Calling all torque converter guys!

The stock stall is about 1800 on your car. That converter is a grenade waiting to blow up if you are beating on it. I say no less than 3200 don't fear the stall you have a lockup for driveability and economy. Alan edit: I just realized this is not a 5.0 car as the screen name would suggest...
