    A PERFORMANCE sacrilegious swap

Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner! D.Hearne, you are EXACTLY correct...every time I see a classic Mustang w/ a mod motor, I just shake my head. Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVED the Year One car at the 40th Anniversary show in Nashville...but in general, NO! They are bulky, heavy, and...

    A PERFORMANCE sacrilegious swap

I assume they are running Dart or World blocks with that much boost! The fun thing about boost is the daily drivability. I haven't changed any internals in my goat, and in rush hour I can stick it in 3rd gear, idle along, and ride the brake...it will just keep moving forward without any...

    A PERFORMANCE sacrilegious swap

Actually: LS2 crate complete <$5000 LS7 <$13,000 As far as manageable power, my GTO has ~480 rwhp @ 7psi and we'll adjust boost/tune for ~550-600 rwhp with the boost controller. Car is my daily driver. Yeah, I don't use all of that power very often, but it is fun! My 66 'vert [which...

    A PERFORMANCE sacrilegious swap

That's my point...that block is $5000 by itself! I have thought about the World Man-o-War 427 or 460 sbf...but that is a HEAVY block. Summit has the 460 short block for about $4500. Double that to build an engine. I can get a forged bottom end 408 LS2 short block for <$4000...far lighter...

    A PERFORMANCE sacrilegious swap

Summit sells a Dart aluminum SBF block for $5000!!! The LS2 block is easily good for 7-800 rwhp...

    A PERFORMANCE sacrilegious swap

Okay, if we're going to waste bandwidth on discussing a 4 cylinder swap, how about something that makes sense, even if it is evil! LS1/2/6/7 swap into a 65 2+2. I have never owned a GM product until I bought my GTO last spring. The LS2 engine is truly amazing with aluminum block & heads...

    Over the Top Question

Okay...if we're going to talk about sacrilegious engine swaps in classics, then I am going to start a thread for a really ill thought I've been having!

Who is interested in a turbo kit??

Actually, the rear turbo is FINE for a daily driver. I happen to have one on my 2005 GTO! The turbo gets no where near as hot in the rear as one gets in the front. I have had and built turbo cars before...trust me when I tell you it just isn't flaming hot! And, if it is wet outside, you...

Who is interested in a turbo kit??

Very interested in this topic as well. Although I have already done the shock tower removal on my 66 'vert, I am not sure if I want to go that route on the 65 or not...so I would be curious as to what kind of turbo setup would fit with a different suspension approach. Also, a 351 block moves...

    Anyone fit a 460 BB in a 67?

I just don't want to think about all of that weight on the front of the car. Wish I could afford an aluminum windsor block and stroke it! Since I bought my GTO and have learned something about GM engines, I have really come to appreciate the LSx engines. VERY light, powerful, durable...it...

Is Newstalgiawheel.com a good company to deal with?

Yep...I talked with them at the 40th Anniversary show in Nashville, and ended up buying wheels for my '66 from them. Solid folks.

Turbo 68 fastback... carb or efi?

Mine is a B50 'sportsman' block [about like the old mexican blocks]; forged 331 bottom end; AFR heads; big blower cam. To run the KB requires a Ford intake, so I have a Fox-Lake stage III ported GT40. Bought it off a guy turning some amazing times in a fox-body. Looks funny on the underside...

Check out this 65 Fastback for over $75K!

Very nice parts list, but I don't like the "package" as a whole. Interior looks goofy, that's for sure. 500hp...at the crank. And you are right, it likely has a pretty choppy idle. Cost...yeah, I can see him having that in it, especially if he paid someone to build it. And I hope that...

    TKO 500 in a classic

Hmmm. My TKO-600 fits just fine in my 66 'vert! No tunnel mods. Then again, I have a R&C front suspension kit, and so the engine is NOT in the stock position. And we just fab'd our own crossmember.

Who is interested in a turbo kit??

Sounds interesting. Easier than prototyping it oneself. Question: 351 block or 302 block? A stock 289/302 block is NOT going to handle much boost without blowing up, that's for sure. Keep us posted w/ more info...

Turbo 68 fastback... carb or efi?

Good thread. I will be dealing with the EFI issues on my 66 [KB twin screw] and didn't realize initially all of the ass'd costs for fuel systems. I am a bit concerned about the size of the fuel pump...not sure if the A1000 will handle it or not [seriously]. Also, I am undecided about...

    got a short block....now what?

And it is not just a matter of bolting it together. I would suggest serious consideration of a finished long block. Now, if you are looking at the 460 World small block [as am I!!!], it's either a crate engine or the short block. I am not in love with the heads that engine comes with...

Rediculously Giant Small Block (460 c.i.)

Turbos, classics, and havin' some fun! Ohhhh man....I am hearing myself all throughout this thread. A bit of background: My dad bought a '66 on my birthday in the fall of '65. Learned to drive it. Rolled it over on a dirt road 3 days after I turned 16...oops! 1979: bought a 66 'vert...

    Looking for a 65 or 66 Fastback....

I personally hated the '67 when they came out, as it looked like someone ran into the panel with the tail lights! Never did figure that out. The roof line and 'bigger hips' looked great, though. 2 yrs ago I picked up a 65 2+2 for $8k. Engine/suspension/brakes were crap, but the car had...

how much hp is too much?

Number chasing...yep, I'm guilty of that. My daily driver is a 2005 gtO w/ turbo...about 480 to the rear wheels with the boost controller set on low. We ran into some software issues on the high boost, but saw >560hp/610 tq @ 4500rpm before we had to shut down. Now this is a 3800 lb car with...
