Changing from stock exhoust manifolds on 1965 289 engine to hipo exhaust manifolds

Also the Hipo H-Pipe is different than the standard 289 pipe and you will need to use the correct Hipo pipe.

Changing from stock exhoust manifolds on 1965 289 engine to hipo exhaust manifolds

There was no heqr riser on Hipo cars, they used manual chokes. If you car is a manual transmission you will also need to swap out the Z bar to a Hipo unit to clear the driveres side manifold.

    wierd ebay find

Terrible thing to do to a very rare K code. They only built 472 of them in 67 and it's value in a very nice original/restored condition is easily 45 to 50k

Where do I get HIPO Exhaust Manifolds?

Also a large price advantage to buy the repro's. Its not unusual for the K code crowd (I hang out with mamy of them) to pay $600 and up for nice originals.

What to do with inner fender?

There are many early model Mustangs here in Connecticut that I see at shows and cruises with what are obviously replacement inner fenders without a VIN stamped on them - they are just blank. I believe that it is illegal to stamp your own VIN is it not?

    Numbers matching ?

The only early (65/66) cars that had vin's stamped on the engine and transmission were the K code cars and this applied to most but not all of these. My 65 K code does have the vin stamped on both the engine and tranny.

    horse power

Here are some rear wheel dyno numbers from my 87 5.0 notch. 100% stock it made 198 rwhp. With the addition of shorty headers a full 2 1/2" exhaust with hi flo cats, underdrive pullys a 65 mm throtle body and a K+N filter it made 227 rwhp. A/C, air pump etc are still on the motor.

Mark's Cruise Night - East Granby, CT

Marks is a great cruise night and well worth the hour trip I takche to get there. I was fortunate enough to win a trophy last year on Mustang night with my 87 notch which was the high light of my car summer. I did go up last monday and there was 879 cars there. Neat show and very organized well...

    Should I get Cherry Bombs?

I bought and installed the base model Arvinode system for my 65 K code last summer. The sound IMO is very glasspac like and was just not what I thought it would be and after a couple of weeks I ended up going back to my Flowmaster Delta 40's. The Arvinode system however is beautifully made and...

Since Custom Audio Sound = Crap, what about Retrosound?

I have the USA 66 retro Am/FM in my 65 and like it very much. The fit is excellent and the installlation was easy and I have had no issues with it. The claimed 200 watt output is not believable but it sounds fine to me through my (2) 6x9's in the rear deck and 2 cone dash speaker. All depends on...

    Finally Winter is Over

Took both my 65 K code and 87 LX out for a couple of hours on Saturday - first start up since being put up in mid November. Hard to describe the joy of the first time out after a long winter

New member seeking advice on estimate for restore...

To my "old timers" mind a lot of the costs you received do seem over board to me. $9,000 to spray a car that is already 100% prepped (a vinyl top car at that) just seems nuts. Does the car need to be freshened up mechanically? If yes, that would make this a 60k restoration. Wow!

    should I buy it?

As a HiPo owner I can tell you that real HiPo engines are a very rare find. Externally look for the unique larger HiPo exhaust manifolds. This car being a standard tans will also need the unique HiPo Z bar for the clutch - the hipo manifolds will not work withthe standard bar. The heads shoul...

    Best sheet metal options?

Having wrestled with the low quality off shore stuff, I would only use original sheet metal. I picked up decent used 65/66 metal whenever I see it if the price is right and you can still scoff up the occasional deal if you look hard enough. 2 years ago I bought 2 good front fenders, two very...

    SVT Contour

I have had pretty good luck with the basic Contour. I have a 1995 base Countour 4 cyl with A/T purchased 1996. 198k miles and counting doing nothing but religious maintanance, synthetic fluids and normal wear and tear replacements. No complaints from this end.

    Autolite 4100 Info

The gasket from Pony Carbs works fine. Had the 4100 for my HiPo rebuilt by them last year and the gasket included is correct. They also sell the gasket individually.

bla bla bla, another tire thread

Ran 245-60 Gatorbacks's on 10 holes for years on the rear of my 87 notch. They fit fine.

Storage Tips, My car hates me.....

    Two questions

If you do not already have one you will definitley want to get a copy of Tony Gregory's book on the K code mustang. It is the bible on these cars and covers them in work and photos in great detail. It is availiable throught the HiPo Mustang web site. Jack
