    Fuel pressure vs idle quality

I also recently got my 302 running and have the smallest Holley mech pump rated at 80 GPH (free flowing). My stock fuel lines from the tank to pump are 5/16" I think and -6 from the pump to the carb (Holley 600) my fuel pressure gauge shows 8psi at idle. It idles fine and I don't have enough...

    Alternator question

I swapped to the 100-amp 1-wire to clean-up the engine bay, since there internally regulated you can get rid of the box on the fender.

Overheating but only when keeping engine above 2k rpm

Deep south has nothing on Fresno, CA we typically have 20+ days over 110 in the summer. What I was trying to say was installing a colder thermostat won't cure an overheating problem if there are other problems with the system.

Overheating but only when keeping engine above 2k rpm

I disagree, I've seen cars with 160 thermostats installed that would overheat because coolant didn't stay in the radiator long enough to transfer the heat. Usually someone with other cooling issues trying to fix it by running a colder thermostat but actually making the problem worse.

    How much HP.... 302

Back in the day, the HP ratings were at the flywheel with no accesories on the motor.

Valve clatter could it be timing?

Yeah I've heard some of the early models were adjustable, I did try and Mines not adjustable. Luckily the Crane kit is only about $28 at the local Kragen.

Valve clatter could it be timing?

Nope adding to much advance to early. I need to get the adjustable vacuum kit that Crane makes for the Duraspark.

Valve clatter could it be timing?

My noise is gone, my vacuum advance was the culprit. Your link to the SBF tech forums is incomplete.

    Valvetrain noise or detonation?

Yup, it was detonation. It looks like the vacuum advance on my distributor is the culprit. When connected it pings under load, but when I disconnected it the ping stopped.

Do you have a link for these heads I'd like to know more about them.

Valve clatter could it be timing?

If the diaphram was busted I would think that vacuum advance wouldn't do anything, mine is providing like 20 degrees.

    Duraspark distributors

I heard the vacuum advance was adjustable on the Duraspark distributor. Is that true, if so which way does one turn the allen wrench to either advance or retard the vacuum advance?

Valve clatter could it be timing?

Well I think it's the Vacuum advance on my distributor. I just got back from a little drive and with the hose connected it still pinged even with 91 octane and plugs gapped smaller at 0.050". Then I diconnected the hose and capped it at the carb and no more pinging. I was told the Duraspark...
