    making rod bearing last longer

Take a look at this for an analysis of bearing failures. It will help you figure out what is going on. http://mahleclevite.com/publications/CL77-3-402.pdf Here is their catalog that talks about the different bearings. http://mahleclevite.com/publications/EB-40-07.pdf P bearings (the...

    Timing cover provision??

Of course they say it's designed to work with thier pump. This is so you'll buy thier pump. The key is the A1000 pump puts out up to 45PSI so that regulator will handle the high inlet pressure it may see.

Anyone ever seen a set of heads like this??

Keep shopping then around I'm sure you'll get someone to bite. To me they look like a GT40 casting just done in Aluminum.

What Cylinder heads on my 91 gt?

AFR200 Trick Flow "fast as cast" Canfield 195 You'll never have to buy another head for a street car like you will with a little 165 head. All of these are capable of 1.4- 1.6 HP per CID and will work on anything from a 289 to a 408. Keep the stock cam for now or do a custom grind.

    Need advice/tips

I would recommend taking it to a GOOD shop that works on peformance cars. What concerns me is why are the exhaust bolts stripping out? All those bolts need to do is keep the flange against the head nad if they are stripping after installation then you have a problem Could be bad motor mounts...

Thanks it's a good 10 footer. Get closer and opinions change. ;)

    Timing cover provision??

With the right return regulator you can keep the stock pump. They even sell adapters to go from the factory fuel lines to AN fittings.

    making rod bearing last longer

Well I can't argue with the timing chain and it's lack of strength but you can spin these to 7K with little more than good rod bolts. Now sustained 6000 RPM's may be a different story with a 50 oz motor but I'm not convinced they will not handle it. Last year I parted out a 306 that came...

    Shocks, Struts and spring combo?

I had the C springs and found them really harsh. I'm using them in the rear still but went to CO's in the front. I picked up more wheel rate and the ride is smoother. Keep in mind that with stiffer springs you need to improve the shocks. If this is just a street car then I would look at one of...

    edelbrock heads Q..

Will the F cam work, yes. Is it the best cam for the motor and your goal not in my opinion. Part of the probelm with the FMS stuff is quality control. Some you'll install and they will be spot on, some will be off a couple of degrees. All of them I've seen cam doctor'd have been off lobe to...

    edelbrock heads Q..

Personally I would not use that small of a head. You have a 5 speed and with a custom cam you could use the Vic JR's. You have to be willing to spin it to 7K but that's no problem with a good valve train on stock bottom end. There are several reasons for the big head but one big one is you...

help with temp issues. won't get over 130*

Cold engine. Pull the radiator cap and start it up. If coolant is circulating the T-stat is stuck open. Since you have no heat my bet is that is your issue. Yeah and changing the T-stat is a PITA due to it's location. I always change the bolts to allen head as it make it easier for the next...

New heads, new cam, new experiences

Well the math not withstanding you have to figure in the rocker ratio. I will have to agree that a 1/2 turn should be fine I prefer 1/4 but in this application it makes little difference IMO. I've run as little as 1/8 turn with no problems but that was on a modified lifter with way more...

    edelbrock heads Q..

From the instruction sheet If you have a 5.0 block then no you don't need them. Can I ask you why you chose these heads? [/LEFT]

New heads, new cam, new experiences

I would assume the .020 you are talking about is the preload on the lifter. The only trick is to make sure the lifter is on the base-circle and all the lifters plungers have returned to the top. 0 lash then 1/4 turn gets you your .020 preload. There are several different ways to make sure...

    New Motor bearing?

No sequence to the main caps. You should inspect the mains and rods though. I have a motor sitting on a stand with less than 500 miles on it, built by a reputable shop here in Phoenix. The bearings were trash, the crank had to be cut and the balance was way out of whack. 200 for a balance is...

    Engine question from a noob

1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 for the 5.0 HO and 351. 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 for non HO 5.0/302 It is doubtful that you have a non HO motor for several reasons. The main one being it's sequential fuel injection and the injector timing would be way off if it had a non ho motor. The casting numbers for the heads...

    please help!!!...valve float maybe??

As was stated it could be many things. It would be helpful if we knew what you are actually experiencing instead of saying it's valve float. The cam sounds like it's a 281 HR. If that is the case it calls for 986 spring which is a dual set up with 322# of rate. I've attached the spec sheet so...

    WHICH HEADS

Why are you looking at domed pistons? There are many heads on the market with 58cc chambers that will net you just under 10:1 on a 306. When you go to a 347 that same head will net you just over 11:1. If it were me and I was not going to boost or spray the motor I'd go with your shortblock...

    rocker arm question

Are you saying you have roller rockers and want to know if they need to be replaced or are you wondering if you have to upgrade to roller rockers? If it is the former the answer is no unless they are damaged. If it is the latter then I would have the heads modified for studs and buy 7/16th...
