    Front subframe question

Most custom fabricated subframe connectors cut the back off of the factory subframe and slip a length of square tubing inside. This thread (on another forum) has some nice pics of a custom set: Mustang II Network Forums - More pics of my restoration on my 78 mustang

A different sort of gas tank question

Yup, I remember the tank in my '65 Mustang. It was a bomb waiting to be hit. Of course any rear mounted tank in any small car is a safety issue. GM even had a few fuel tank-related deaths with its early 80's Malibu family of cars, and that's a mid-sized car. For any replacement tank, the...

    sway bar end links

That arrangement should work fine on the rear. You just need a plate cut (about 1/8 inch thick should do) to mount to the factory frame location. Drill a hole for the bolt that runs through the heim joint, and a handful of washers to space it out.

    Oil Pan ?

If you could move the front suspension crossmember about 4 inches forward or the engine about 4 inches rearward, the Fox 302 oil pan might fit... ;) Your best bet is an early Mustang 302 oilpan with the small diameter Fox 5.0 starter. And either a little massaging of the pan with a hammer...

    Wheels-Tires Basset Rims

I think that the lowering makes the difference in how wide a tire and wheel package you can fit in the rear. I also don't know how much of the inner wheelhouse he removed when he mounted the flare. I recommend going through the sticky theread on wheel/tire sizes here and make a list of those...

    T-top cars factory torque boxes?

Still looking for MII T-Top torque box drawings, but still not finding. I'll post on the other site and see if anyone there has pics. I did find some pics of a guy restoring a '70 coupe in Denmark with loads of welding pics, including pics of new torque boxes going in: My 1970 coupe...

    Oil Pan ?

Maybe someone else has different info, but I don't see how you could get a girdle in the MII specific 302 oilpan. If you are planning on drag racing rather than road racing, I'd recommend just raising the engine a bit and using a standard 302 oilpan with the girdle. Of course you'll need to...

    T-top cars factory torque boxes?

Still don't have any photos in my collection. I'd love to have drawings...they would be easy to reproduce with an industrial sheetmetal bender and some heavy guage metal. Actually, easy for a fab shop... ;)

Cast Aluminum spoke wheels, worth anything?

The cast aluminum mesh wheels were standard on a couple of packages with special finishes and machining (KC = orange with special machining, Ghia Sport = Chamois), and optional in either polished with clear coat or white on almost any other MII. The special finish wheels may be pretty rare...

    Wheels-Tires Basset Rims

The widest (reasonable) tires you will find for that wheel will be 225-50 or 225-60. I think that there are also 265 width tires in this diameter, but they are mostly drag tires. The 225-60R15 tires are the factory Mustang GT size, so there are several suppliers. The 225-50R15 size is...

Adding set of headlights in grille

I've seen one or two CBII's or KC's over the years with a set of grill-mounted headlights or foglights. I think I would lean away from a set of high-beam headlights in the grill as they would need to be more solidly mounted and would need an aiming mechanism. In this case, steel supports...

Besides under the rear axle housing, where to place jackstands

If you have any rust on the bottom, you'll probably need to remove the front and rear leaf spring hangers to clean and paint under them. I recommend putting jack stands as far to the outside of the front suspension crossmember as possible, and under the rocker panels just forward of the rear...

    U joints

I'm sure there is a more technical answer...but I've always heard that you need at least 1 inch travel at it's installed depth. So when it's in, it should have at least 1 inch more travel before it bottoms out. Bottoming out is bad on both the trans and the rear end. You could always...

Hi. About to be new 76 owner. Many Questions

I swear I saw floorpans at MustangsUnilimted.com, but darned if they are there now... Anybody? I believe that the "Ordering Axles" sticky at the top of the board has all you need on installing axles. The Ranger drums are a definate. The front leaf spring mount is actually a plate that...

    Fall / Winter Projects?

I had great weather this past weekend, so I finished my "rattlecan restoration"! I repainted the engine, touched up the inner fenders, painted the rusty suspension bits. It's about as good as I could do without blowing the whole car apart (which I wished I was doing everytime I cut myself on a...

    adjustable UCAs? possible?

The guy I saw doing the vertical mount on the upper a-arm (with reinforced angle iron) was using shims to set alignment, just like the upper on many older Fords. Ford must have seen some benefit in changing the way the alignment was set, I'm guessing it was in the amount of time required to do...

Anyone offer front Koni shocks for the II?

Most drag shocks are 90/10 (jounce/rebound?) to get the front end in the air on starting. Street cars need more like a 50/50 shock. Most Koni's are adjustable, but I don't know if these drag shocks are or if they could get close to 50/50.

Hi. About to be new 76 owner. Many Questions

Russ, welcome to MII ownership! The Mustang II circle is pretty tightly knit, so if you have questions, you will usually find help here or we will find you help elsewhere. Another good thing is that many of the members here also post on the other MII forums. Rule No 1 for restoring a...

    8.8 rear end

Personally I would just elongate the holes in the leaf spring plate and skip the welding step. I think that once you snug the nuts down on the U bolts they will not move in the elongated holes. You will probably twist the MII body apart before you break one of the leaf spring plates or shift...

    Fall / Winter Projects?

Great body work and great color! I can't wait to see the interior and engine. What do you have planned for it?
