    VERY strange problem, clutch maybe? Help please!

    If the engine is stumbling, it wouldnt have anything to do with the clutch. If the clutch was badly slipping, the RPMs would go up, but the car wouldnt be accelerating. I dunno, maybe start by cleaning the MAF.

    Well, they do emissions testing in my county too, and they can also lose their license for doing it illegally. Not sure about CA, but around here they dont have to dyno(smog) anything 98+, they just plug the computer into it. But since I have longtubes, i have a "slow response from O2" codes...

    Its a female torx bit if i recall correctly. Sears hardware should sell them in a set(not individually-I already tried). And as for the motor-good luck. Dont put anything under the pan, unless its the edge where the pan meets the block. Sounds like it might be a dangerous balancing act to me...

    Odd... Quite possibly the clutch. Might as well try a new cable(FMS adjustable if you got the money). And if that aint it, you could use the cable anyway.     98 GT - Wont Start?

    More like, it requires a lot of amperage(quantity), something the battery doesnt have enough of for the starter, but does have enough of for the lights etc.

    If it goes in fine any other time, in any other gear its probably not the clutch. Probably the syncros in the tranny. 1-4 syncros take a real beating in mustangs. 5th and reverse not so bad, since you dont go into those gears nearly as often, and rarely shifted hard into.

    Get the tank almost empty, and put the lowest octane gas you can in it. Around here its 87. Just drive around part throttle and dont put much load on it if your worried about detonation. Lower octane gas burns more efficiently. That should help, some. But if you find a surefire way to make it...

    i cant see what he means by its harder on the dyno?? the dyno is just a couple 3500lb drums on an axle, that freely spin-while a sensor detects their speed/acceleration. unless of course he means its harder on the dyno's brakes-since the drums are spinning faster... but hell, those things...
