3G Alternator Upgrade - Remove Old Wires?

To add to the cost of doing it yourself, plan on buying a crimper that will handle 4ga cable. If someone figures they can just use a vise and hammer on their 4ga alt cable... that's a plan to fail.

1988 Check Engine, Gas, Washer Fluid, etc. Lights

Really? My 87 has a low coolant, low oil, lots of other lights, but no Check Engine Light, and especially not one associated with showing EEC codes.

few questions about my NEW notch.

Oh, and by the way... if reaching the torque requires less than 1/4 turn... you can flat-sand the bottom of the pedestal a small amount, or get shorter pushrods. But if thats the case, especially with all stock equipment, something is way wrong.

few questions about my NEW notch.

If it takes more than 1 turn from zero lash to reach the torque, you're putting too much preload on the lifter. Placing a shim (.030 or .060) under the rocker pedestal allows the bolt to reach the torque sooner, keeping the preload on the lifter within spec. The rocker in that video either...

a few questions with fan swap

You can use the ignition switched power for the coolant level sensor. It's a common place to grab 12v for fan controllers.

few questions about my NEW notch.

Dude... you have a 1989 HO 5.0 engine. The rocker arms are pedestal mount, bolted down, torqued to the head. When one is coming loose like that video, something is broken or coming apart. These are not rockers that can be set by feel, by a certain gap to the top of the valve, by tightening...

Build Thread Finally! 89 Notch 2v Swap Progress Thread Project: 89mach1

Glad you're not a rice racist. Cuz that would be bad. Guess what I meant by "rice" was the wheels that look ultra expensive but come nowhere near matching the car. Your wheels look nice on there... complementing, not screaming "Check the rims, bro!"

time to start the winter mods

I installed a FRPP oil pump shaft summer 2010 and it did say ARP on it. Very light laser etching.

Those wheels are neat. Not like everything else... matches the car nicely without being rice.

few questions about my NEW notch.

You can only do this with the '92 and later AODE, right? The '89 has the regular AOD that uses mechanicals and hyd pressure to shift... no connection to the EEC, no solenoids...

    more electrical demons

Charge / check the battery and charging system. When it sits for a few minutes, it's recovering enough voltage to get the fan running, but wont start the engine. As soon as you hit the starter, it drains anything that's left and won't even run the fan. Few minutes later, battery recovers enough...

    Intermittent miss...

Naw, no vids. I was too busy trying to make sure it would stop. I guess after sitting for 5-6 years, the brakes could use some work. Also the Hammer shifter has a rigging issue, the heater core is bypassed, engine idles a bit too high (1000 with a TFS stage 1 cam), several exhaust leaks...

    Intermittent miss...

I'm gonna try it cuz that billet MSD looks so bitchin! Of course, if it doesn't work, I'll finally see about getting my money back. But I'm with you.... also doubt that just changing the cap n rotor will do it. I just don't understand why the problem is in the body of the MSD dizzy... hmmm...

    Intermittent miss...

Yeah, max power engine runs are fun. The '57 has to have 60,000 lbs of fuel on it just to help hold it still, or else she'll start dragging the tires. :nice: The '67 will bounce and struggle against the brakes so much that you can't read the N1 and have to use the computers so ya don't overshoot...

    Intermittent miss...

Thanks Dmar. Just have 2 or 3 more small things to do and she's hittin the street. Gotta see how she does then, but I'm lookin forward to it. I'll post back after I try swapping some more things around. I'm gonna throw something if it ends up being a cap n rotor.
