Need advice: New carrier and axles?

One of these days you're going to have something useful to say, Kilgore. Thus far, just about every post of yours I've ever seen has been completely worthless. Some of us prefer to drive away from the track every time, you know. I'm pretty sure that with my stock rear end and 28 spline...

    Long Tube Diffrences?

I'm happy that I have longtubes, but I can't recommend the Hookers I've got on mine. They perform fine, but are highly prone to leaking, mainly at the slip joint that goes around the steering shaft. I recently took that header off and resealed it with copper RTV which did the trick. When I...

Where to anchor hoist on 4.6?

I just used the two uppermost studs on the timing cover. Held up just fine.

    Weird Oil Dipstick

Yeah, mine's all screwy, too. Always has been. When reading it, try to see where the lowest place is where there isn't oil on the dipstick, and always check it more than once to try and get a consistent reading. My car takes 6 1/2 quarts of oil.

Need advice: New carrier and axles?

Well, from the input I've received here, and from what I've read on other forums and websites, makes me lean towards the Eaton Posi LSD. The idea of not being able to rebuild the Auburn is a turn-off, and since they seem to be similar in performance, the Eaton seems to be the better choice. To...

Need advice: New carrier and axles?

I've had a number of people recommend the Auburn pro now. I think the 33-spline option is out, because I'd have to go with C-clip eliminators. 31 spline axles should be plenty strong for my needs anyways. I just got off the phone with Moser, who recommended the Eaton Detroit Trutrac. I...

Need advice: New carrier and axles?

The car is steadily seeing more and more track use, and may cease to be a daily driver in a year or so. I'm curious what other carrier options you might recommend if I wanted to go with something other than a Ford part. I hadn't thought about welding the axle tubes and torque boxes now...

Need advice: New carrier and axles?

Well, the clutch packs in my stock differential are completely hosed. I can do a wonderful 1-wheel burnout now, and right turns are interesting. I'm thinking I might finally get a pair of slicks for my car soon, so I'm looking to take this opportunity to upgrade my rear end, but I don't want...

    t-56

I'm going to be buying a T56 conversion kit from D&D Performance. It comes with the transmission, custom crossmember, the bellhousing, and an aluminum driveshaft. There are two options: standard spec and viper spec. The standard spec will accept your stock clutch and the kit costs $1,100...

So I was hoping to get my first 12...

I've been using Nitto 555R's. I've never tried any other kind because I hear these are the best drag radials for treadlife. If the car wasn't my daily driver, I'd get something softer. I get about 6 months out of a pair.

    Someone broke into my gt

As satisfying as that might be, it's a horrible idea. People who are shot, but not killed, committing criminal acts have successfully sued their shooters. If you ever, EVER pull the trigger on your gun with the intent to shoot someone, always shoot to kill. Dead people can't sue you. :nice:

So I was hoping to get my first 12...

Well, after installing my cams, I had a painful 2-week wait until I could try her out at the track. My previous best just a few weeks earlier without the cams had been 13.228 @ 104.40. My first run of the night with the new cams got me 13.023 @ 106. After that I managed trap at 107 mph on a...

    What clutch/flywheel? Endless choices...

So, I'm buying a T56 for my '02 GT. Why rebuild a crappy T3650 when I can replace it with something better? :D I'm going to get the D&D kit with the standard-spec T56. I'm not going to need Viper spec for probably several years. The car is still daily driven for now, but I'm more than...

Header Bolts - How can I tighten them easily?

Cool, thanks. Sure wish I could afford to throw on an aftermarket K member while I was at it. As it is, I'm still trying to decide if I can fit new motor mounts into my budget this weekend.

Header Bolts - How can I tighten them easily?

Yeah, I figured that one out after doing just a little bit more reading and looking under the car. This isn't sounding quite as bad as I had originally thought, it's just that there's a few things I've never messed with before. No time like the present to learn. Do I need to totally...

Header Bolts - How can I tighten them easily?

What about the springs? Do I need to compress them and/or remove them, or can I leave them in place? (assuming, of course, that I don't remove the A-arms)

Header Bolts - How can I tighten them easily?

So, I seem to have developed a fairly severe exhaust leak. Bad enough that it's thrown a code saying the left bank is running lean. (Not to mention that it's lound enough to be embarrassing.) I'm fairly sure the leak is at the head-to-header connection on the driver's side. I've got Hooker...

    P1131 and leaky headers

Well, my head-to-header connection started leaking bad enough yesterday to make me throw a code, P1131: Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Lean - Bank No. 1. With my long-tube headers, it's going to be a real pleasure trying to fix. :nonono: My question is, am...

Help! How can I seal my exhaust?

Lucky me, I kept my Hooker install directions from two years ago. (Though, I didn't install them myself.) They do mention using RTV at the head-to-header connection in addition to the gasket (which I find odd), but no mention of RTV at the slip joints. However, if copper RTV can withstand the...

Help! How can I seal my exhaust?

I have Hooker long-tube headers on my GT and they are leaking like crazy, especially after my cam install. On the driver's side there is a slip joint on two of the primaries where the pipes go around the steering shaft and those things leak like you wouldn't believe, and there's no way to...
