Progress Thread Horse Sense - 66 Coupe To Fastback Conversion

Nice find. The first Harbor Freight saw I had was a workhorse and I abused the heck out of it. They have since redesigned them and I have found that they work poorly right out of the box. I have been very disappointed in them. If your Ridgid replacement works as good as my first HF, then it...

    408w Timing

I too have heard the same and have considered trying it. My concerns are that I have 11.1:1 compression (205psi static compression) and needed to purchase an aftermarket starter to turn the motor over reliably when it is warm with 14 degrees initial timing. The plugs show light borderline...

How Much Torque Can A 70 Coupe Handle

If you follow through with weld-on subframe connectors, the 70' body will handle 400hp even with drag slicks at the track. On the street with street type tires, it will handle more. 400hp at the wheels should be a walk in the park for a 408w with a good set of aftermarket heads.

Narrowing my 65 Mustang rear end

Mini tub with frame mod gave me nearly 3" on each side. IIRC, rear was narrowed 1 3/4" per side. I use a 5.5" BS 10" rim. Here is what it now looks like with the 28x10.5x15's:

    1966 Alignment Questions

A little rearward movement of the UCA will give a nice change in caster. The LCA would require much more forward movement in order to equal the same amount.

    1966 Alignment Questions

Rotating the eyes forward will move the whole control arm rearward and that will make even less clearance at the rear zerk. Is the rear zerk a 90 degree one like it should be? If the zerkis going to hit then you shouldn't try to get more caster this way. Hopefully the big nut on the end of...

    1966 Alignment Questions

Spin the shaft eyes toward the front of the car, which will move the UCA (and the ball joint) rearward. Note that the direction that you spin the shaft (CW or CCW) will be opposite from one side of the car to the other.

    1966 Alignment Questions

Was the Shelby drop done correctly? The holes are not only dropped, they are also offset. Done poorly it would definitely affect caster if the holes were not drilled properly and equally on both sides of the car. Could the car be aligned before the drop? The template in the back of a Tony...

    1966 Alignment Questions

Caster should be positive and the same (or within 1/2 degree with the lesser being on the LH side to account for the road crown.) If the shop could get the passenger's side to be just as positive as the LH, you would be golden and track nice without pulling anymore. Also camber and toe-in...

    66 Mustang Restoration

I like it! Would love to see a full frontal and a full side photo too. Is the hood scoop the Boss or the Cougar type? Did you make it functional?

    408 stroker build?

Thank You. I run in a dedicated bracket racing stick class, both at my home track (Beaver Springs Dragway) and when touring with the Prostick Racing group. I rarely race the slushbox's but have held my own as this car comes on hard on the top end when it is least expected. The car and I...

    408 stroker build?

Agree that the car needs to be prepped for the expected HP. I also agree that a built 429/460 will easily make the desired HP and not be maxed out. A set of welded subframe connectors and other similar chassis strengthening tricks are needed to help maintain the body integrity. With only...

Brakes 66 mustang disk brake conversion

There is no proportioning valve on factory 4 wheel drum brakes. It is needed when front disc brakes are installed, otherwise the rear brakes will lock up too soon. This can cause the rear of the car to pass the front in a panic stop. In addition to adding a proportioning valve for the rear...

    408 stroker build?

Unless mostly street, the 750 wouldn't be my first choice for a carb as I saw a nice gain at the track when I switched from a Biggs 750HP to the 950HP in my 10.6:1 compression 393w with a Vic Jr.

No. They are different. You need either 67' or 68' parts.

    9" flange question

The one on the right (4") is what you would use with the stock 8" drive shaft. If you have a choice, then you might want the 1310 U joint version to match your 1310 8" driveshaft. If not, there is also a combo joint that is readily available that has both 1310 and 1330. Besure to get the U...

If your are referring to the 3rd member driveshaft yoke and want to use the old 8" driveshaft, it will require the short yoke on the 9".
