1965 289 exhaust header vs HIPO manifold

65ShelbyClone, FWIW, my FPA headers have no need for the drop bracket on the steering and do not hang down under the car. They are even step headers that are 3/4" at the collector. I wouldn't use the drop bracket because of too many tales of them pulling out.

    shock absorber selection

I guess it's a matter of budget and prefference. When I went to have my konis rebuilt in the late 70's early 80's the cost was almost as much as buying a new set. That was directly with Koni. Things may have changed since then. I'd still take my bilstiens over the Konis from what I remember of...

1965 289 exhaust header vs HIPO manifold

I've never used the hipo manifolds, but I suspect you would feel a degrease in the seat of your pants. Long tubes or tri-wyes-- cheap headers are cheap headers. Go cheap and you will have the same sealing problems. I fought try-ys top and bottom in years gone by. I have a good set of headers...

    shock absorber selection

I had the eddys on my car and switched to Bilstiens. Loved the improvement. Currently I wouldn't use any other shock. I've used kybs and konis on other cars. If you go gas-adjust, go with a softer shock in the back like GR2. I didn't like the underrider bars in the corners and pulled them...

Cut coil springs question- can they move?

Very unlikely, but possible. You've got to cut a lot and they tend to move at the top, not the bottom. In the 70's I had a mustang that I had cut quite a bit off some 620 springs. It was a simple matter to rig some cable to keep the suspension from opening too much if a wheel came off the...

Victor Jr's too big for a street car?

I’m probably stirring the pot here, but I think you should talk to Jay Allen (camshaft innovations). He’s a distributor for the TFS FAC stuff and can set you up with heads, including the right springs, top end, etc. Pricing is competitive last I looked. People are usually polarized for or...

    Running too cool?

What type and temp is the thermostat? That happened to me when when I ran a high flow thermostat. I put a standard flow back in and it warms up fine now. The fan is used to cool the motor, the thermostat is used to bring it to operating temp. If you have a standard flow t-stat, it's...

4 Point Seat Belt without Harness Bar?

I know what you mean. A 10 mph accident with only a lap belt and you eat the steering wheel... I've been thinking about these with my recaros. 4 Point Installation Instructions I'm not saying they are anywhere near as safe as a cage and restrain system done proper, but they look...

I found the ultimate junkyard seats

You don't need the $66 brackets from summit. $12 of flat bar stock and your original sliders will get them into your car.

    Thoughts on K&N Air Filters

From what I have read, the problems with MAF sensors is from people over oiling the filters and the excess oil puts a light coat on the sensor. I ran one for years and never had a problem with the MAF. I've seen cut-away photos of a turbo that looked like it had been sand blasted on the...

    289 hop up help

For a 16 yr looking for a little more zip, I'd install new gears, hedders, good intake and carb. Yes, he can pick up more with heads and cam (even porting), but any 16 yr old I know wants to drive his car now. These things can happen in a weekend and he WILL feel the difference. More than...

I found the ultimate junkyard seats

I just put some of these in my car and used the stock sliders. Going from stock seats to these is a fantastic upgrade. They lift your thighs a little and your butt is a little lower. These are very small differences. Here are a couple of pixs comparing the stock seats. I also got some webbing...

    Radiator temperture split

The heater core is hooked up (I used it when it was running hot). I do appricate the suggestion about the valve, but I don't think I would like the looks of that in the engine compartment. Plus I use the heater on my way to work. I drove the car with a 7 blade flex fan and hi flow t-stat...

    Radiator temperture split

No shut off installed in the heater hose. I do have an after market pump, so it should flow plenty to both. I'm going to have to consdede the temp split is a synptom, not a cause. I installed a high flow 180* t-stat and went for a drive in 89* weather. It took forever for the car to...

    Radiator temperture split

I did all of those items exept water wetter and an electric fan before my first post (and they are all excellent suggestions and good points). I've used Mr Gasket and Robert Shaw high flow t-stats in the past, but they have too much by-pass when cold (takes forever to warm up). Just the same...

    Radiator temperture split

2+2, Thanks. :flag: Stonecold, I did not say it ran cool at speed. I just gave the temp in my driveway when I got home. I DID say I have a shroud. Delta-t does give information on what's going on with heat transfer. A high split on a hot motor indicates low water flow, a low split on a...

    Radiator temperture split

Anyone know what a typical temperature split across a radiator is? Yesterday in 90* weather my car was running hot. Idling in my driveway, I checked in/out temps and got 225/175. This morning in 60* weather, I had 190/145 when I got to work. Both times ~50*. The cooling system is 3 row...

    Headers

I really like my FPA headders, but be prepared to spend $$$.. They fit perfect w/o a drop bracket for the power steering. Call and I'm sure they can work around an AOD. Ford Powertrain Applications

    identifying gear set

If the rear is assmbled and in the car, jack it up and put it in neutral. Put a piece of tape at the bottom of one wheel to mark it. Turn the drive shaft and count the number of turns it takes to spin the wheel one revolution. 3 1/2 turns means you have 3.55. Three turns means you have 3.00, etc.
