    68 289 More Power!

Personally I'd take a stock 289 with an OD trans (AOD or T5) with some gears over a warmed up 289, a C4 and stock open rear end. If it were my car, I'd stick a T5 in there, run the exhaust (inc headers) around the new trans, then do the rear end, then worry about the motor.

Sounds like a good plan, but what trans and gears do you have?

IGNITION QUESTION FOR THE EXPERTS IN THIS AREA

If you are firing good at 12* thru 36* ignition is not causing you to overheat or overrun. I'd look at other things. If the cooling system is good, what about fuel? Could you be running lean? Dirt n the fuel/carb? Old carb, tank? Vacuum leak? Did you make any other changes? Personally...

IGNITION QUESTION FOR THE EXPERTS IN THIS AREA

How was the power on your drive? Are you sure it's advancing? What is your total advance?

    headers question

I've got the M S cable and FPA headders. No problems. Added + is I didn't need a drop bracket for the power steering ram eihter. Mine is a 68 though.

    68 temp gauge-2 questions

I can't offer a solution, but I will say my AutoZone temp sensor reads exactly like what you are describing. I've never had a problem thogh. My gauge is way off once it gets warm. I had a a high flow T-Stat that read in the middle. When I measured the temp at the water neck with a Fluke 52...

    65 289 A-code (Cam and Valvetrain) Questions

I've had heddman, hookers, numerous cheap tri-ys on different cars over the years. Can't tell you how many gaskets I've replaced. I've always just considered it part of having headders. Soaked them, retorqued them, yada yada. Scrape the lower flange and develop a leak. Part of life, at least for...

    65 289 A-code (Cam and Valvetrain) Questions

If it were my coin, my car, and my kid, this is what I'd do.. Set the 289 aside, get a STOCK roller cammed 5.0 l motor and set it up for a carb. Swap the trans with a T5 (or AOD) and swap in some 3.25 gears. This will: Sound/look stock accelerate much quicker than stock Annihilate the...

How much meat does the Weiand Stealth have to it (need to grind for distributor fit)?

Sounds like you stabbed the distributor wrong if you have to grind on the intake... I've got a stealth w/o issue. If I were to turn it too far it would hit. You might be off a tooth or two.

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

Did this happen all of a sudden or gradually? With 34k miles, I’d guess it’s been to 200* without problems plenty of times in the past. How long has it been since a tune up? What do the plugs look like? Inside of the distributor cap? Probably not ignition, but best to rule out things like a...

    Weld on Traction Bars

If I attached the photo correctly.. Here's my 68 convertible with GW subframes and underriders. It can be done, just a little tricky.

    Weld on Traction Bars

I've got the 165 standard height leafs, 525 coils and bilstiens. I can't speak too much about this set up yet. I just put the leafs on this Saturday, but took off the traction bars a while ago. I replaced my tie-rods at the same time. So I haven't driven more than around the block until I get it...

    Weld on Traction Bars

I've got them on a 68 vert. I just took them off. I'm going with Maier leafs which load the leaf pack on the front side. The under-riders are longer than the front of the leaf spring, so as the spring flexes, the two archs are different (binding) which creats a harsh(er) ride. Removing them...

New distributor gear when installing new cam?

Give this guy a call. He can set you up with a rebuilt unit, curved to your motor, with the right gear, relatively cheap. http://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_index.html

    Need Carb tuning 101 class

The problem may be in the age of the carb, not the brand. 10+ years is a long time for a carb if it is untouched. With the motor off and air cleaner off, are you getting a good pump shot? How is the rest of the tune? Timing? Plug color? All the Eddys I've had also want a little stiffer...

    Recommendations for jumpy suspension?

I would NOT trust Mustang Ranch... There are a few other local Mustang shops and I know a tire shop in Campbell that does good work. The guys there are familiar with old mustangs.
