Completly stock motor vs. Balanced and blueprinted stock motor? How much HP gain?

Yes, a perfect internal balance makes much more power.

    Does this actually work?

As long as you are grinding on the plug, don't just cut it back, bevel the end of the ground strap as well. Like hold the spark plug at a 45 degree angle to the grinding wheel then clean up with a file to produce a knife edge at the tip of the strap, which terminates right over the midpoint of...

    High Tank pressure???

The air is rushing out because the evaporative emissions system is not functioning properly. You have a vent line to the charcoal canister in the engine bay, which stores gasoline fumes while sitting. Then from there is another line to the engine intake to burn off the fumes at the approriate...

    leaf blower

Whatever blower you use be it a john deere or an engine supercharger, it has to move more CFM than the engine sucks in naturally aspirated in order to boost it. For a stock 5.0 you want something more than 600CFM. 2 horsepower leaf blower? That's called an intake restriction. The big...

Which is better 180* thermostat or the 160*

If you mean with ALUMINUM heads you are correct; I wouldn't see past 250 myself. Of course I would never use aluminum heads to begin with, but anyways. Your owner's manual will verify that 270 is the safe cut-off temp for the stock motor.

    Which 5.0 handles better?

The fox handles like ass. No two ways about it. Not difficult to make it a great handling car though. That's a sweet lookin ride is it yours?

anybody heard of running a bit hotter when running rich

Would take a considerably beefy relief valve for a 1500-2000 PSI application. I like the idea though.

    Fan Spins Freely..Fan Clutch bad?

lot of BS in this thread... Normally functioning viscous coupling fans are like this: (END OF DISCUSSION) When they have not been in use for a while, they will be stiff. They turn with little effort, but wilol not spin freely. When exercised either by yanking the fan back and forth by...

Function of clip on outer ft brake pad???

I believe the sole function of pad clips is to hold them in place during installation.

Which is better 180* thermostat or the 160*

What exactly do you think is "hotter than normal"? As long as it stays under about 220 it isn't overheating; you can let it get up to 270 max with a stock engine but it runs like crap as it starts to get too hot.

anybody heard of running a bit hotter when running rich

Right, sorry, equilibrium vapor pressure doesn't change with atmopheric pressure... that would be boiling point. Still, like I said before, the cooling system is spring loaded. It would take a massive loss of atmospheric pressure, such as tossing the car into space, to considerably defeat the...

If you can turn them in and out by hand there is nothing wrong. I would leave it alone...

    Which 5.0 handles better?

How is it dumb? A LOT of people have done no suspension work to their cars. For those who are going to, it's nice to know which car will require how much investment to get X performance out of it, isn't it?

    tranny problem

alright I guess it sounds like a synchro... transmissions not very much fun to get into. I don't know of a website that tells how to rebuild them but there should be one out there. I have pics of the inside of a T5 to point out where everything is but I can't get em on the puter right now...

mother of god i think the steering took a crap

Power steering pumps screech when the wheel is turned and they have no fluid. If you cannot keep fluid in the pump, BYPASS IT. Otherwise it will eventually seize and fall apart at your inconvenience, leaving you with no cooling or charging systems. How would you guys rate a manual rack on...

Sorry if I appear to be picking on ya Mike :p You do have a great deal of technical knowledge.

anybody heard of running a bit hotter when running rich

Fuel isn't burned completely when it is rich, it burns slower. Which is why EEC controlled engines richen the mixture as the engine gets too hot; it slows the rate of burn to lessen chances of detonation. BUT I am not saying either lean is hotter or rich is hotter cause at this point I'm...

anybody heard of running a bit hotter when running rich

I don't think this is correct. Vapor pressure would be reduced for a liquid open to atmospheric pressure, but the cooling system is not. Coolant pressure is maintained by spring force which is not subject to atmospheric changes. Engines run hotter at higher altitudes simply because of the...
