You wouldn't adjust it...you'd replace it. It sounds to me like it's bad, because it's behaving erratically.

Does your car scare you? mine should...

Sounds like a good idea. Where can I pick those up, and are they a bolt-on replacement with no modifications?

Maybe your idle speed controller (IAC I think).

    Harmonic balacer gone bad?

That makes sense that 4 bangers don't have harmonic balancers (inline - inherently balanced), but I was told by the mechanic that fixed the major problem with my car that is was in fact the harmonic balancer that was messing it up. WTF is that thing that hooks up on the crank then? I remember...

Well, you can't change the settings on the computer itself. What you need to do is to find what sensor is broken and change it.

If we're running 4s why do we want to sound like V8s?

Naw, it's not just you, I love the way the 2.3 sounds as well. So weird...it doesn't really sound like a normal 4 cylinder. Is there any reason why this is? I remember asking this a long time ago.

    car buying advice...

No, the 89 LX doesn't have the correct computer. Head over to eBay and search for the parts I mentioned. That's where I got them. Yes, you can use the new starter. Like I said, the engine is pretty much the same. The only thing that might give you trouble is the AC compressor, but that only...

    car buying advice...

Welcome to the boards, Chris! What type of fuel injectors? I'm guessing that the "enlarged" ones are the brown-top 35lb/hr types. You'll need an LA2/LA3 computer and a large Vane Air Meter (VAM) for that. Is it a stock turbo? On it being maxed out...how is it "maxed"? In terms of fuel, yes...

Does your car scare you? mine should...

Damnit, I really need someone to give me a hand with pulling the engine out of my car, so I can get the new one in! All I need right now are new head bolts, and some miscellaneus bolts, nuts, and washers. Hopefully i'll be able to pull the misc. parts from the n/a engine.

If we're running 4s why do we want to sound like V8s?

Hey Penguin, if you think people are shocked when you say V6, imagine what it's like for us 4 banger guys. It's typically "They put four cylinders in Mustangs? That's f***ing stupid." Luckily, they don't know about the 2.3 SVO's, Thunderbird Turbocoupes, etc. Sleepers!!!

    Found an 86 SVO

What jets do you work on? I'm an F15C/D electrician. BTW, yeah that car isn't gonna be worth it. I agree with asha'man, like $2500 or so at the most.

    Found an 86 SVO

What kind of turbo? I doubt it's making 350hp with the 35lb/hr injectors, because they can only support ~300hp. What other mods has he done? What kind of intercooler? How much boost?

There should be an adjuster screw on your throttle body. I can't really describe where it's at, but you can use a flathead to adjust up and down. EDIT: Ahh, Stinger has that on his site.

If we're running 4s why do we want to sound like V8s?

It's funny you say that because I was thinking the same thing. Well, I don't wanna sell my car and my engine parts, but I reeeaaallllyyy want to get one of those cars. 4.6 DOHC is the best sounding motor ever made. Oh, and somehow I want to get financed for a car like that. I wonder if a...

If we're running 4s why do we want to sound like V8s?

Whoever said we want to sound like V8's? Besides, the 2.3 doesn't sound like a typical 4 banger.

have some money to spend what mods should i do

Do you already have the engine, and everything you need for the swap? If so, you could build one hell of a nice setup with $2500. - Custom exhaust manifold (Stinger, Rod, or 40Bob) ~$300-$500 - Bigger turbo (T03/T04 50 trim i'm told is the best matched combo for the 2.3 for up to 400hp)...

    Here's my dyno results with the HX30w @ 22psi

Your car is making more torque than a stock 5.0! That's crazy. Nice numbers BTW. Has anyone talked about those cams Esslinger has on their website?

    Exhaust..

I'm not so sure that your plan would work. First off, you can't just "do" a custom manifold. It takes lots of work, planning, math, etc. to do this. Second, i've never heard of a split manifold that you speak of, and I don't think having extra-long runners (so this dual thing would work) would...

    Update on new 2.3t engine

    1. Better intercooler 2. Full 3" exhaust, if you don't have it (i'm talking from the turbo outlet back) 3. Lower-compression pistons (so you can run more boost) 4. Adjustable boost controller 5. Bigger throttle body (There are guys out there who will bolt up a Ford Racing 65mm unit for you)...

What really helps a 2.3 for an automatic?

http://projecthp.ford23.com/howto.html How is ~$350 too expensive? I'm sorry, but swapping from a manual to an automatic is not a good idea. If anything, it'll cost MORE to do so.
