I had the exact same problems with my setup. My K-member had two slots available for the motor mount studs to install into. The furthest forward slot would not allow the passenger header to fit correctly (the steering linkage was not hooked up so I have no idea on clearance there) and the slot...
PCV. First thing I would look at.
Ditto on the leakdown test. It cannot be beat for accuracy.
If you feel froggy, take your intake off and look in the ports. If they're oily you've just eliminated the cylinder walls and piston rings.
It could be so many different things that it's difficult to tell you where to start looking. Your description may sound reasonable in your own head but I can't figure out anything from it. I would begin as Rick suggested, check the vitals. Timing, fuel pressure, electrical connections, plugs...
Well first rule is never arc anything electrical with a screwdriver. Go down to the parts store and invest $5 in a remote start trigger.
Without really knowing exactly what your setup is (and assuming you've correctly assembled everything) you have most likely created a large voltage spike...
That certainly could be a contributing factor and I wouldn't rule it out. Swap out the pump and do a basic tune-up, if you're still experiencing the problem you will now have a good clean slate to begin from.
Are you burning up oil too? You never mentioned that before. The only place you could be losing oil and coolant into your cylinder - that I can think of - is from a crap gasket. I wouldn't bet on a head gasket though, I'd say it's more likely a manifold gasket. Did the gasket look like crap...
Uhh... where is the coolant going if it's not leaking out?
You've got some odd problems if you have 7 black and 1 white spark plug. Are the black ones oily black or crispy black? White spark plugs are normally a good sign for extreme temperatures/pressures caused by excess timing, poor fuel...
There can't possibly be a leak behind the timing cover or you'd have all sorts of water in your oil. I'm still guessing it has something to do with your gaskets, either heads or water pump (pump for your sake).
One thing you might want to consider, depending on how frisky you want to get, is...
I flipped the first picture so it looked as if I was under the car and it appears that there is no coolant leaking down the front. There is a small bead on the balancer with a hint of some on the front, but most looks to be coming from the passenger side a short ways back on the block. Water...
Hmm.... My immediate thought was that you have a bad seal in your pump, but if you say that it's not leaking from the pump...
If you can narrow the leakage area to a single point that would be the easiest to attempt a diagnosis. If it slowly leaks out of the intake opening yet does not go to...
Yeah I noticed the same thing in the '94. I threw a TKO on the tail end of my motor and couldn't figure out why it was offset. I'm actually glad you said something because I just assumed that I built my motor mounts crooked! I took the time to measure everything and ensure that it all aligns...
Pretty much the only way to determine that is to try it. Put the new plugs in and run it for about 100 to 200 miles and then pull the plugs and look at the tip. If they're oily and black you've gone too cold. If they are mostly just crispy with that white residue powder on them you're money!
Key word here is might.
Alternatively, you could grab yourself a string, run it through your pulleys until it's really tight, mark it and measure it, subtract 1/2" - 1" for the tensioner and viola!
Either way, good luck.
First you must realize that spark plugs have two basic functions: 1) igniting the fuel/air mixture (i.e. spark) 2) removing heat.
Basically, as compression increases, the energy involved in the spark process is also increased to overcome the additional forces in the combustion chamber. As the...
Don't let the low costs and lack of customer support make you underestimate the power and ability of MegaSquirt. It is just as capable as most other kits on the market.
MS is fully adequate in either speed density or mass air. Mine is currently set up in the mass air configuration. One of...
The cool thing about MS is the price. You will save possibly thousands of $$ by going with MS but before you decide which route to go, you need to realize that customer support is very limited with MS. That's what you'll be paying for if you go a different route.
That said, I've got MS-II on...
