    Dan's First Car Build Thread

I don't think we have ever had a 13 year old ask for advice, and it's great to see your enthusiasm. You couldn't have come of age at a worse time for foxbodies. They are absolutely through the roof right now. My best friend of 24 years just paid $25K for a 93' Mustang GT automatic because it...

    302 hp

I had ported Windsor Jr. heads in the long long ago. Like 25 years ago. I never dynoed the car, but it didn't pick up much at the track. There's just very little data on different combinations on those heads. Kurt

    Interesting update from Tremec

Good to know. I'll look into that. Kurt

Fox Phenolic spacer on Systemax intake. Are long tube headers worth it?

That doesn't make any sense. Why are you putting a Systemax 2 intake much less a ported one on TF 170cc heads? Frist off I would ditch that intake and get like a Cobra intake or something. That thing is going to kill your intake velocity going into those little heads. Throttle body 65mm or...

    Interesting update from Tremec

Hanlon just told me not to use Royal Purple specifically. Dex 3 non synthetic for break in, Penzoil Synchromesh after 500 miles. Kurt

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

Well guess what the shifter bolts hit the trans tunnel. So far so good on the other problems though. Kurt

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

Play-doh purchased. I will definitely look out for that. Thanks for the info. I never had a problem with an alignment tool. Kurt

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

I actually put the twin disk Vengeance in like 2 years ago. My 3550 had a 26 spline input shaft on it. I'm kind of wondering why you used a spare input shaft to align the clutch when every clutch kit comes with a clutch alignment tool. I have at least three 26 spline ones, and two 10 spline...

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

It's sitting on the trans jack. Everything is ready to go. I want 4 hands instead of 2, and my Mustang buddy and I have had conflicted schedules. I bought the damn thing 2 months ago, and then all kinds of things happened. I had an out of town funeral to go to, a problem with the house, a...

    351w swap headers

BBK longtubes generally have the better quality, and better clearance with stuff like steering shafts. They tend to have the best road clearance, but the sacrifice is they have the worse transmission clearance. Ask me how I know. Everything is a sacrifice. Kurt

    Nitrous on 95 5.0 Tips?

I've been doing nitrous a long time. Shoot with the questions. Stock tuning is fine, but you need to be able to retard the timing. Swap the spark plugs. I have Autolites, but a lot of people use NGKs now. Generally you want to step it up and see how it goes. Start with a 50 shot, see how...

Need Info on Manual Brake Swap

Manual brake conversions are generally used with specific brake kits. I don't think it will work with stock brakes. I tried it once, and immediately upgraded the brakes. Kurt

    Spark plug gap

Whether it's .043" or .052" isn't going to make a :poo: of difference on an NA engine. Just screw them in, you are fine. Kurt

    Clutch cable help

I have personally never had a problem with a BBK part. I've been using their cables for years. I actually bought a Steeda cable this last time. The fender mount bracket was too long and interfered with my headers. So I actually bent the BBK bracket off of the old cable, and bent it onto the...

    Clutch cable suggestions

MM is feeding you total bull:poo:. They sold the :poo:tiest cables for 20 years and were marketing them as "OEM" replacements. There are plenty of totally reliable aftermarket cables available.. I prefer the BBK ones because they have the best aftermarket clearance for headers with a shorter...

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

Fantastic question, and thank you for bringing that up. I actually never thought to mention the midpipe hanger. In 1999 when I installed the TR 3550 I fabricated midpipe hangers. I took 2 S hooks and 4 one inch washers from Hope Depot and welded them together, I then used some bar steel to...

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

Those ZL1s are so badass. I am aware of the upgrades that can be done to go way past Viper Spec. If I modded this transmission like I did my TR3550 it's going to be more about shifting speed. That means brass fork pads and fiber lined blocker rings. People are putting 1500hp through factory...

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

I got a new mount, but thank you. Fortunately I have learned one of those most important things over the last few decades, and that is you can rely on people who want to make money. So I just called Hanlon and said "tell me what I need." I have actually never dialed a bellhousing, because I...

I just spent a lot of money on a transmission

You are correct, the only bellhousing available was the Quicktime with the 7 o'clock. It's a massive piece, and I am probably going to have to pull a header to fit it in. I had a coworker who spend two months in the hospital because a clutch went through his leg, so I am kind of glad to have...
