    it is because the torque converter is not full yet. when it is full, the tranny engages. cold weather = 'thicker' fluid + your somewhat worn seals = wait for engage when cold.

    without a doubt, the best way to strip old paint is to pay someone to do it. as a backup, try aircraft remover. oops, but no chemicals, definitely pay someone.
