    Unfortunately it's very common to get a used car where some moron has created a rat's nest of the stereo wiring... really, stereos are simple enough to install you think people would bother to do it right... Sounds like you really need to just start over and make sure everything is wired...

    I'm not really sure what you meant but if you're saying you sanded the chipped areas all the way down to the metal that's not a bad thing. Better to do some metal finishing and/or use filler primer if you can instead of using a bunch of filler... the less filler you use the better.
