    66 Wheel Bearings???

    Abnormal "grooves" wouldn't be a problem unless they interfere with the running surface of the bearing or race. I'd seek the advice of someone who can actually SEE the situation. The grooves may have been caused by bearing/race failure in the past.

    Are the bearing races fully seated? If you replaced the races (the parts in which the bearing rollers roll, they may not be)(BTW, you are tightening the spindle NUT not the bolt.) Use a brass punch to fully seat the races if needed. You are wise to check out the problem as trouble is apparent.

    They are called "nails" because they ressemble nails. They have a nail-like head and the other end has a flattened point. They secure the shoe to the backing plate. They were called "nails" when I worked as a salesman for NAPA.

    A '67 doesn't have provision in the dash for the stock A/C ducting system UNLESS it was originally so equipped.

    why would starter wire smoke?

    Remove the starter and bench test it using a set of battery jumper cables. This will verify whether the starter is functional or not. The smoke is caused by excessive resistance, The normal cables may have deteriorated. (Yes, that happens :D) You can also test the amperage draw of the stater.

    I believe that the wheel cylinder must be upgraded as well. Cylinders come in different sized bores to correspond to larger shoes. Bigger shoes require bigger brake nails and possibly springs.

    Depends on your knowledge of things mechanical and your driving habits. A "break-in" period is advised. If you wish to run it to a specific limit and want "protection" a limiter seems to be indicated.
