Ignition cylinder + no keys = my universal key

"Hot wiring" an early Mustang is about as simple as it gets. Who needs a key?

Daily Driver leaking coolant all over...

Unless you are going to use the pump often, just having the leak found by a radiator shop is less espensive. :D

Daily Driver leaking coolant all over...

No, I thought that had been long forgotten but, if cleaned up, it IS appropriate. :D :D :D

    wheel studs, how long?

The brake drum must fit onto the lug (not stud). The drum has provision to accept the lug.

    Put new springs on but.....

The Mustang vendors are much more likely to be of help. See the web.

    GT500.....worth how much if real??

Most of this is all speculation. Unless the car is VERIFIED authentic by SAAC and it's actual condition is known, what's the point in guessing? I know of a authentic Shelby convertible that was retrieved from the Toutle River after the erruption of Mt. St.Helens in 1980 but, as you can...

    want more from my 289

All of this assumes that you are working on a healthy engine to start. Throwing money and parts into it without analizing it firsr seems unwise. For example, if the engine is weak to start, camming it will achieve little. Check the compression, oil pressure, etc.

Cam is too tight; 'fixed' it, am I screwed?

Agree with the above. You are doing the right thing to have it checked and corrected BEFORE going further.

    why would starter wire smoke?

Agree with D.Hearne. Cables may "look OK" but still can have high resistance due to internal disintegration and corrosion. You might say that the cables age and with that the resistance goes up. Often, if you cut the insulation away from a suspect cable, it will corroded. The end terminals...

    Mustang/Montego crossover parts ??

You are about to fall off the page so I'll take you ttt (to the top). Can't answer your question but someone will. Seems like there should be lots of cross-over parts.

    Put new springs on but.....

Indeed, 620's are shorter and stiffer than stock springs. They will NOT settle as another poster states. See if you like the 620's as is before you try raising the car. The shocks will NOT raise the car. IMO, pads are a poor choice. The fact that 620's are shorter and stiffer is well...

    junkyard parts

That's fine if you know what you are looking for, recognized it and don't mind spending time finding it. Wouldn't you consider such a "score" somewhat unusual? :D

    junkyard parts

I note with interest that you call them "wrecking yards" and not "junkyards" which is a step in the right direction, There is a perception that a "junkyard" is run by a "hayseed" type that is so dumb that you have to help him find his posterior. In my experience, those days are long gone and...

If they are listed with different part numbers it is safe to assume that they are............different. :D

    dumb Q but can you make a 289 into a 5.0?

Carb set up is simpler (no electronics) AND lest expensive. EFI has it's advantages although. The 302 to 5.0 liter designation was nothing but a marketing ploy by Ford. In the case of the 4.6 liter, it's departure from the old design which gives it more punch and better mileage. Contrary...

Daily Driver leaking coolant all over...

Do as you like, but "throwing on water pump" seems pointless unless the pump is the problem. If the pump is leaking fluid it will normally show where the fan shaft enters the pump housing. When I was in the parts biz, I loved to sell parts to people experimenting with solutions, Like the...
