    New best 1/4 mile time

Nice!! I like old school...It's also cool to see parts like coil helper RV shocks on a 10 second car. That last photo is washMO's "old" car. Before he had the silver and black paint he also had a Vinyl66:D

    New best 1/4 mile time

Awesome car HookandLadder! I saw your car a while back in an old Car Craft magazine and wondered if it was owned by someone on the message boards I visit. What does your rear suspension consist of? Traction bars? Shocks? I'll bet 1.5x 60 footers are fun!

    New best 1/4 mile time

Very nice clean looking coupe HookandLadder!! And super fast to boot:nice: What does your combo consist of: Cubes? Heads? Cam? Gears? etc... I'm jealous of your and Washmo's times:D

    1/4 mile and hp numbers

The early 289 block should be fine for a 331 stroker kit. What brand heads are those? Canfield? Your combo sounds pretty good to me. It should run very well. A custom cam would produce the most power. There are newer ones that have faster ramp rates and more lift. That cam is an old grind...

    New best 1/4 mile time

Congrats on the new time! By the looks of the pic it seems that you are really hooking on the line. :nice: You are getting plenty of weight transfer with the new springs. It could be hooking initally then unloading the rear tires as the front end comes down. A video of launch would really...

Actually, there is video of that run. Another member, ga289stocker (David) has it. Hey David. We want video! Please help us out. Thanks.

    New best.....

Thanks! I was really wanting an 11.7x but the perfect reaction time/new mph/gift certificate more than made up for it. For all you guys and girls contemplating drag racing I say get out there and try it! You see some nice cars, meet some nice people, and really have a good time. Well worth...

    AFR or Twisted Wedge?

    I can't speak for SoCal but I am straight.

    New best.....

Well, not a new best et but a new best reaction time. I only made 3 runs on Friday night at Atlanta Dragway because there was such a crowd on opening night. I spun on all 3 runs and had a best et of 12.19 with a very crappy 60 foot of 2.08. I did hit 113.5 mph a few times which is a new...

    AFR or Twisted Wedge?

I agree with SoCal. Both the AFR and the Twisted Wedge heads are great choices. Can't go wrong with either head. The Windsor Jr's should make decent power with a correctly matched cam. What are the specs of the Crane 2020? Isn't that a fairly small cam for a performance application? What...

what are your 347's running at the track?

Get a GOOD stacked plate transmission cooler. A big one too. I got one similar to this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRU-COOL-TRANSMISSION-COOLER-28-000-GVW-OC-4590_W0QQitemZ320086191454QQihZ011QQcategoryZ33727QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It takes up a very large portion on the front of my...

what are your 347's running at the track?

I am still using an 8" rear in mine. I did stud the pinion support and used hardened washers and lock nuts for extra reliability. I also use a Detroit locker which is one of the strongest and most durable lockers out there. I love it. So far I have many 1.7x 60 footers with a best of 1.69 on...

    6 pt cage finally complete

Your interior looks awesome! :nice: Those seats really look nice in there with a bit of old school racer flare. Are they semi comfortabe? They look super light. Did you weigh the stockers vs. the Kirkeys? Can't wait to see what your latest mods do for you at the track. Let me know how you...

what are your 347's running at the track?

Thanks. My 1/8 mile speeds are 92mph. My quarter mile speeds are 112mph. I hope to try a 750 carb sometime this year to see if my 650 is a restriction to the engine. I hope it is:D I realize the 3.55 gears are not close to optimum for my combo but they keep the rpm's down on the street...

what are your 347's running at the track?

My 347 uses a roller block as well but I am still using a relatively small hydraulic flat tappet cam in mine. One day I will get around to putting a nice roller cam in though. It should pick up torque and hp throughout the rpm range. Your combo is very similar to mine. I am using the same...

    My 289 recipe thoughts!

Thanks!! It definitely has a mean lopey idle but not what I would call rough. It has a great sound compared to the stock cam. MUCH more agressive sounding. If not a bit too loud with Flowmaster 2 Chambers.:nice:

    My 289 recipe thoughts!

It looks like you have a nice selection of parts. It looks VERY similar to my 347 build in my '66 Coupe. I have the same XE274 cam, AFR 185 heads, Used to use the same Pro Products manifold; (picked up 2.5mph at track with a Vic. Jr.) You may not notice as much of a difference on a 302...

    Very simple drag racing question?

I always shift my auto myself at my desired rpm. Much better than letting the trans decide when to shift.

    Very simple drag racing question?

Famous last words:D Others may feel this way to start out. But once you're bitten by the drag race bug it is hard to get rid of the fever.:nice: Do it. You'll love it!
