    coil pack question

Having been through this before, I can give you some pointers about what to try. It might be the coil pack, or it might be a plug or a plug wire. If you want to eliminate the plugs and wires, you can try swapping them two at a time to see if the misfire moves with them (you'll have to get the...

    RIP (??) RED98

Hey, that's better than what I got! When my last car was in the shop for collision repairs, they gave me a Geo Metro to drive for a week! What a horrible little car. You had to beat on the friggin' engine just to keep up with traffic.

    Changing Rear Brake Pads

I'm not sure why turning it counterclockwise helped. As far as I know, it only needs to be turned clockwise. The way I got my pistons in was to use a large C-clamp to put pressure on the face of the piston while carefully turning it clockwise with channellocks. It worked like a charm!

    RIP (??) RED98

The air bags are going to be big. I'm not sure, but I think insurance companies require that they be replaced with new, not junkyard, and the work has to be done at a dealer for liability reasons. New bags from the dealer can be $1000+ each! The rest are standard crash parts, so they should be...

03 v6, turns over no start or gauges

This happened when you hooked up the tach? Maybe ignition voltage got into the 12V lead somehow. That would have been bad for the computer. When you turn the key to 'ON' (not start), you don't get the dash gauges/lights, and the pump doesn't come on? Might be the computer with that many...

    RIP (??) RED98

Whether they total it might depend on how deep the damage goes. If it got into the radiator support- maybe. If all you need is a bumper cover, hood, fender, bags and headlight- maybe not. Sometimes they'll ask you if you would rather them total it, and sometimes they'll let you buy it back after...

Maybe the wire is still broken, or the switch on the brake pedal needs to be replaced.

    '04 headlight adjustment

If you take the headlight assembly off, there are screws on the back that adjust the beam. I think there are two screws- one for up/down and one for left/right, and you just have to experiment with them to see which is which. The best way to do that is park the car on a level driveway pointed at...

    94 aod to t5 swap

There might be a compatibility problem between the engine and the tranny- maybe in the lockout that prevents the car from being started without the tranny in Park. Maybe try finding those wires on the original harness and try to start the car with them shorted. It might also be an anti-theft...

    tranny shuddering..ideas?

That noise almost sounds like a u-joint hitting the body under load. You sure you don't have a broken engine or tranny mount? Maybe get under the car and look for gouges around one of the u-joints just to rule that out.

Help, Ford racing 4.10 for 7.5 axle not available

I doubt if there's much of a difference at all between Ford Racing and the aftermarkets. Sometimes they're even the same thing in a different box, as some specialty companies are subcontractors to the OEMs. I think any of them would work just fine. Anyone complaining that a particular brand...

    o2 Sensor Help

If you buy a flex joint, just make sure you spend the money and get a name brand one. I actually fragged a cheap Chinese flex joint that I bought at a swap meet once. I wasn't using a cheater bar or anything- I was just bearing down on it and it snapped! I cut my hand pretty badly on the chassis...

    o2 Sensor Help

Those O2 sensors can be a real %#$&@ to get out! There are some things you can try: WD40 really isn't a good penetrant. It's just an all-purpose lubricant. Get a can of PB Blaster from the auto store and soak the sensor, then bang it a few times around the rim with a hammer (to shock the seam...

Rear Caliper Pistons need to be roatated?

and they can be a real bugger too! I found it to be a waste of time to try to turn them with a needle nose pliers or one of those tools they sell in the auto parts stores. The way I did it was by gripping the top of the piston with pliers, which makes it a lot easier to turn. Just be very...

    tranny shuddering..ideas?

Last thing you might try if you suspect old or contaminated fluid is to find a shop that has a tranny flushing machine. It flushes all the little passeges and valves with a solvent before replacing it, so if there are problems caused by buildup or contamination it might solve the problem. I...

    herky-jerky & sluggish

Boy, I don't know. the fuel filter and air filter are the usual culprits. Maybe get some contact cleaner or MAF cleaner and clean your MAF sensor. Try putting the tranny in low and while driving at about 2000 RPM, hammer it and see if it still shudders. That might help rule out a problem...

    Headlight installation

Best way is to make a hook out of a coat hanger and use it to pull the springs through from the back. Use your other hand to guide the spring if you can't see it.

    Mustang '97 questions

Does the rattle sound like it's associated with the speed of the tire, or with the bounces of the suspension? I doubt that a spring would be rattle, even if it sat for awhile.
