    Check for diagnostic codes first; every DIS fault I can think of will set a code. Confirm fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

    That's a nice calculator. Good find. It agrees with my calculations, FWIW. Statistically I haven't seen much change from 3.08 to 3.73, approximately 0.2mpg, and that's a big change in gearing; I'll be really surprised if you can measure a difference in mileage between the 3.73 and the 3.90...

    Lifter clatter? If a cam lobe stops on the rocker the HLAs will drain down over time and then they need a bit of time to refill. Should correct itself fairly quickly. Just a SWAG. :shrug:
