Which MSD part do I need and part #'s

Summit Racing. Give them a call (800-233-2323) and they can assist you with picking the correct additions for your combination. Without knowing a whole lot about your setup or intentions, I'd recommend #8282 coil, #8739 two-step (if you decide you need it), and #8598 dizzy.

    Start up new motor OIL???

Ahhh... This is what I love about electronics, fuel, and oil theories. Everyone has their theories and hate to be wrong! If you'll notice, I ended my last post with "do your research!" Because, as you said, stupid people think they know it all. Apparently for you, Red Line, Royal Purple, and...

    Start up new motor OIL???

Manufacturer recommendations are just that; recommendations. Castrol and Mobil 1 both recommend the use of synthetic in new engines with zero miles. CompCams sells an additive for cam break-in in performance engines which is synthetic compatible. The fact of the matter is that synthetics are...

    Start up new motor OIL???

Aston Martin, Bentley, Corvette, Viper, Porsche, and many other vehicles come straight from the factory with synthetic. Zero miles. Myth busted.

    Start up new motor OIL???

Ditto. The only practical reason not to use synthetic for the first few hundred miles is due to the cost. In most situations you will experience small shavings from various engine parts unless you run them all through a de-burring apparatus. If you have completely rebuilt an engine with new...

How do I tell what rear end I have?

I usually just look in a mirror because when you ask someone else to examine your rear end they tend to exaggerate.

Alternator Wiring - Hot or Switched?

You could possibly conceive this as a theory thread since I have no Ford electronics to deal with. The question is simply how best to wire an alternator. Running a single wire from the alternator directly, in essence, to the battery is sufficient. I was trying to decide if that single wire...

Alternator Wiring - Hot or Switched?

I realize the theory behind the single-wire alternators is that the relay is automatically opened once the pulley begins to spin, but it almost seems like there would be some leakage in the circuit somewhere which would drain the battery a bit. But I've pretty well decided to just leave it on...

Fox guys with 351W and longtubes..need help

I don't recall the brand of my current headers but I had them made for my car at a specialty shop anyhow. I have, however, successfully used the method described above for both Hooker and Kooks headers. You may need to temporarily remove the starter initially depending on the size of headers.

Alternator Wiring - Hot or Switched?

From what I can gather from the wiring diagrams I have amassed, the alternator is connected to the hot bus but it almost seems like it should be on the switched bus. Is this correct?

It isn't absolutely necessary but it is definitely recommended.

Fox guys with 351W and longtubes..need help

Try installing it from beneath the car. It may not be a very viable solution if you don't have a lift or some pretty high jack stands, but that's how I can get them in. Unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine about two to three inches and then tilt to the side as you wiggle it in from the...

Can someone help me with some wiring issues?

Junkyard! It's a gold mine half the time. Or you could try buying a new one but that will run you a few hundred dollars. I personally gave up entirely and put a whole new system in, to include the computer, so I could run my own wire.

Can someone help me with some wiring issues?

The '86-'93 T-Birds share pins 37 & 57 for keyed power, so that should help you a bit. Pins 20, 40 and 60 should all be ground, if you have the speed density version pin 49 will be as well. Once again, either way pin 30 will be the NDS signal wire. Here's a great site which has numerous...

Can someone help me with some wiring issues?

Pin 22 should be tan/green running from the connector to the fuel pump relay and to the P1 on the self-test connector. With the key on, you should receive power through the EEC power relay via pin 37 and 57. Pin 30 is a signal wire from the transmission which ensures it is in neutral. The...

mounting a MSD6AL under drivers seat

The only installation recommendations from MSD request you do no mount the unit upside down or in an enclosed space such as a glovebox. I've never noticed heat to be an issue inside the vehicle. I mounted my box beneath the glovebox on the passenger side firewall and have no problems.

mounting a MSD6AL under drivers seat

You can mount it in virtually any position you prefer and have adequate space. It's all a matter of installation difficulty. Mounting under the driver's seat is no different than the passenger side. Just ensure that you have proper grounds and have adequate insulation.

    Longtubes for a 351???

Hooker has some real good pieces though they are a bit limited on variations. You could always have them custom made for a fairly reasonable fee.

    fuel system help

A 5/16" OD line is equal to an AN-5 line and good for roughly 500hp. A 5/16" ID line is equal to an AN-6 and good for about 750hp. I would recommend you utilize fuel lines accordingly. AN-8 is simply too large for your application.
