CHP 347: Difference between 5.4" and 5.315" rods

The included main support is probably a main girdle. As for the difference, it's going to come down to preference. The longer rod will provide a longer piston dwell at TDC, providing more torque. It is also a better rod lenght to stroke ratio, which means the angles pushed on the cylinder...

what carb would you put on this set up?

Good info, I hadn't thought of that. :OT: How far of a drive is it to Houston for you? Check out www.theclashofthetitans.com, Baytown, July 16th. They had a race in Belle Rose, I think they only did it one season, though. I'll be there racing in the 12 second true street.

Finally Done !!!! See what you think

That's AWESOME! I'd like to build one some day. Why only 6 psi? What pistons are you running? Compression Ratio? Running Lean? Fat Boy!!! I knew it! After I typed Road King, I kept looking at it thinking, that's not right.

what carb would you put on this set up?

I would think that's correct. It has to do with the air velocity. I always think of it like blowing through a 1/2" tube vs a 5" tube. The air coming out the other end of the 1/2" tube will be moving faster. But, the 750 will allow it to flow better at higher RPM's. The 650 can only flow 650...

That car is nice!!! I hope my car's that clean some day. I also noticed that cobra in the back, any pics of it? Also, is that a road king with ape hangers?

what carb would you put on this set up?

Vacuum in the intake does not govern whether the secondaries are open. Vacuum flowing through the carb opens them. At idle, there's very little air flowing through the carb, so the spring holds the secondaries closed. When you go to WOT, the air flow increases with RPM. When the air is being...

C4 to rebuild or not to rebuild?

Go with the agressive shift kit, you'll like it. What's not to like about stiffer shifts. IIRC, it's also easier on the clutches because it shifts faster. I had an early model C4 with a manual/automatic valve body that I really liked. One thing to be away of is if it's an early or late...

what carb would you put on this set up?

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you said that it was lack of vacuum that opened them. Heat wave?? I wish it were only 82 here. It's 82 when I get out of bed at 5:30. I'm sure Hearne's the same, but with more humidity. I do remember it being cold when I was in northern France several...

I got ~12 with my cougar being bone stock, all they way down to the 2v carb and 3.00 rear end. I rebuilt it, went with a 4v carb, stock 4v intake, and it didn't change much, but it was probably closer to 10. I could go 200 miles on a tank of gas, which is 20 gallons. If I was leaving myself 3...

what carb would you put on this set up?

That's backwards, vacuum flowing through the primary venturies is what opens the secondaries. There's a diaphram that possibly has a hole in it. There's also an o-ring that seals this to the main body of the carb. I had a quick change kit on my old carb that allowed me to change the spring...

I changed the insurance on my cougar to recriational only (rarely driven), and got full coverage on my mustang. I pay less than $100 a month now with my 99 GT. It really didn't change much. I greatly enjoy having the GT as a DD simply because it's nice to have two powerful cars. It doesn't...

    Is 345 FWHP Enough ?

I dyno'd at 340 to the rear wheels with 4.56 gears (that high gear fools dyno's and will actually dyno lower than with lower gears). I'm running a C4 with no problems, so I think your c4 will be okay. My brother, on the other hand, dyno'd over 600. Third gear died in his car, but luckily...

what carb would you put on this set up?

That could go either way. From the way it's written, it seems as though your option 1 is what he meant. I believe it's not too big for your motor. You could run a 750 and I think you'll be fine. And he's saying if it's properly tuned, it won't bog, either. I'm running a 950 DP on an...

what carb would you put on this set up?

Use this formula to figure you're CFM size: (((Max RPM/2)*Displacement)/1728)*1.1 The original formula's like this: ((Max RPM/2)*Displacement)/1728, but for naturally aspirated cars, they can reach 100% volumetric efficiency, so going 10% over is a good rule of thumb(x1.1). Basically if...

I'm almost scared to ask this..

I dropped a nut in the abyss of my cougar. It appears randomly, you can hear it roll from one point to another, but if you try to get it, it disappears...

Kind of a dumb question, but...

That's basically what D.Hearne said, but thanks for the part number. It's one of those things that's being planned for after this race season, so atleast I have time to save for those lifters. Again, thanks for the info.

    Quick 351W question

That's good to know. I thought the 4v heads had bigger ports as well.

AFAIK, they're pretty reliable. My GF's mom has a 96-98 (not sure) v6 auto and it's no bad. I've driven it a few times, and it appears reliable (aside from the typical bad battery or altenator). The only thing is, the gas mileage isn't much different than my '99 GT. I had a 97 convertible GT...

Kind of a dumb question, but...

I searched and couldn't find a definate answer. I have a 351w in my cougar and was curious about the roller cam conversion. I was reading in Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords about a 408 they built (stroked 351) and they drilled and tapped the block for the stock spider from a roller 302. My...
