    Valve float problem?

It's more likely a 'missfire'. One cylinder is not firing and therefore the unburned fuel/air mixture is getting into the exhaust and burning with a 'thump' as it mixes with exhause from other cylinders. Valve float only occurs at very high RPM anyway...

    302 Running Rough

Are you sure it's the head gasket and not the intake manifold gasket? Usually a head gasket only effects one or possibly 2 side by side cylinders. Rarely does it effect all 4 on one bank. The intake should have a water passage in it as well so just because it's leaking water doesn't mean it's...

Does Ford think we're Stupid? 315 horse? what the hell!

Ecoboost is program direction for 2011. Just wait a year and you'll have all the twin turbo power you could ever ask for - and decent mileage. I mean, the 2010 Taurus SHO's V6 will be north of 300 hp... imagine what they can do with a v8.

Tuning Edelbrock Carb w/ help of Wideband - Suggestions?

My carb wasn't new but I do have all the paperwork. I'll start from the beginning and go through it. I had an hour or so the other day and the new wideband hooked up so I thought I'd have a go at it. The way the weather has been lately, it may have to wait until spring for me to do any more...

Tuning Edelbrock Carb w/ help of Wideband - Suggestions?

Thanks for the replies. Rapid, Does the manifold vacuum keep the rods 'sucked down' into the jets until it drops enough for the springs to overcome the vacuum? Would I want a stiffer spring - one that pushes up the rod sooner (richer) or a weaker spring that leaves it down longer (leaner)...

Tuning Edelbrock Carb w/ help of Wideband - Suggestions?

Greetings, I picked up a wideband oxygen sensor a few months back on eBay and installed it on my '69. I have the Edelbrock 1405 w/ electric choke. I have the needle/spring kit for it and have been doing some 'seat of the pants' tuning for a couple of years now. Well come to find out the...

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

If your 180 t-stat gives you engine temps that go no higher than 190, I think you're ok. As you stated, Stant says that 180's don't fully open until 190. You may want to try a 180 from a performance shop. They are a little different than the discount store 180's... IMO changing your...

    Very strange misfire, Help!

What do the plugs look like on the missing cylinders? If the o2 wasn't functioning properly due to no ground, your plugs may be fouled. It's a remote possibility but easy enough to check. Set your TPS position also. .99V koeo if I remember correctly.

    Cam and rockers

If you're changing the cam, get one that provides the lift you want while using 1.6's. 1.7's are a compromise that isn't necessary when you install a new cam. They are harder on the valvetrain and many times cause valvetrain geometry issues. There is really no need to use them since you can...

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

Here's an 'out of the box' suggestion. Drain your gas tank and get new gas and see if the problem goes away. Bad gas - just a thought.

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

How old is the gas tank? Does your filter have rust particles in it? As I mentioned earlier, if you have rust in your fuel bowls (as you mentioned), your fuel system is most likely not delivering adequate fuel. Yea, 200 degrees is not preferred but I think you need to start getting into the...

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

I'm not sure what's so stupid about it? An occasional spike to 210 - or even 220 - isn't going to do any harm. As long as you don't see steam coming out of the radiator, the fluid is still in a liquid form and is therefore capable of properly conducting heat. There is still a significant...

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

Regarding fuel pressure, get a gauge that you can locate where you can see it while you drive. You might find that the pump is unable to pull enough fuel at high rpms due to line restriction. The fact that a newly rebuilt carb already has rust in the fuel bowl tells me you need a new fuel...

    engine assembly

Mix STP with motor oil. It is super slick but will stick to the parts until you start up the engine. As said by others, use proper assembly lube on the cam lobes though.

    BRAKE FLUID LEAK!! HELP

Start by tightening all the fittings and cleaning the fluid off the car. It will eat the paint. Top off the fluid, start the car and pump the brakes a few times to see if it's still leaking. If not, go for a drive and check again. Do this until you're sure the leak is gone.

Leaky rear main so I might as well do a tranny swap. Which Tranny?

Do you have a 1 piece or 2 piece rear main seal? I ask because you do not need to remove the transmission to replace a 2 piece rear main seal. I've done it and the job only took an hour or so. Unfortunately for me, the oil leak was actually from the rear of the oil pan. Stupid aftermarket...

    .30 Over

There is no hard and fast rule about static compression ratio because what matters is dynamic compression ratio. This is most effected by the cam. If you have a lot of valve overlap, your dynamic compression will be much lower and therefore you can get away with a higher static number (like...

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

Oh G0D, your A/F mix is not right! You should be around 15:1 at idle and drop (richen) to ~11.5-12.5:1 at WOT. Start by changing your secondary metering rods and/or seats to something much bigger (smaller rod and/or bigger seat). Do you have the carb metering kit from Edelbrock? It has all...

No Power, pops out back, runs hot, and Pi$$ me off

Electrical resistance goes up with temperature so if you have a sketchy coil or module, it would act up when it gets hot. The Accel on my '91 was weak and would cut out and then not fire the car until it cooled. I had Accel rebuild it and it's fine now. I have a Edelbrock 1405 and performer...

    piston & connecting rod installation

The little notch in the top of the piston goes toward the front of the engine regardless of what side of the engine the piston is installed in. Your machine shop will know how to install the pistons to the rods. You just need to remember to point the notches to the front when you assemble it.
