    Plastic Media Blasting

that's more like it $700 I can live with. Even $1500 with priming isn't too bad. Socal, your link didn't work for me but I was able to search Hotrod and find the article. The prices are more in line with what I expected. Too bad the shops are all 100 miles or so from me. Maybe now that...

    Plastic Media Blasting

I am starting a new project and would like to have it blasted with plastic media before I begin. I got an estimate from a local place (Hot Rods & Custom Stuff) and was a little shocked. $2500-3000. The car: 67 coupe with what appears to be original paint an some surface rust. No obvious...

Independent Rear Suspension project in my 64.5 Mustang

IRS I plan to follow your build even though I have purchased an IRS unit from a 2003 Cobra to go in my 67. I still like the idea of taking the Jag unit and making it work in a Mustang. I like your write up but with me you are preaching to the choir. I wonder if I can put an IRS in my 2006 GT...

    Drive Shaft Length

1" Ideally, you should only pull it out about 1". If it has too much play you will have vibrations and wipe out the tailshaft bushing quickly.

    Car weight with aluminum block.

torque boxes I also added front torque boxes which weigh a few pounds. I was inconsistent with weighing parts. I weighed the new engine will all accessories (365lbs) and the old engine (485lbs). I weighed the fold down seat but not the sfc. I weighed the IRS but not the old rear suspension. I...

    Car weight with aluminum block.

weights The IRS weighs about 220lbs. Thats really close to the 8" assy with leaf springs. The MII crossmember is much heavier than stock. The Webers weigh more than 1 four barrel. Dual 2.5" exhaust with crossover is a little heavier than stock. Power windows probably add a little as do the 4...

    Car weight with aluminum block.

Weighed my car today to see how close I came to my goals of 2800lbs and 50/50 weight distribution. I'm actually a little disapointed. The results: 2912lbs with 53/47 front/rear distribution. The weight is with about 6gal gas and no driver. We me in the car (210lbs)the front/rear...

Clutch has the shakes (the kind that break things)

shudder Several things can cause clutch shudder. Possibly the linkage. Broken engine mount will do it too. Contamination (oil) on the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate is another possibility.

    dohc aluminum block swap

I normally hang out in classic tech but I just bought an engine, T56 and IRS unit from a 2003 Cobra which I intend to put into a 67 coupe project. The engine only has about 31k miles on it so it should be fairly fresh. One big drawback for this swap is the weight of the DOHC engine. I am...

Template is 0.020" off - is that a big deal?

no big deal Even stock there's more than .02 slop in the hole to stud clearance. You won't have any problems.

    Maiden Voyage after MII Install...

MII I have the R&C MII in my 65 fastback. I have added the front torque boxes and TCP subframe connectors but no other extra bracing. The crossmember on the MII suspension is substantial and offers far more support than the original crossmember. Rather than discuss what extra bracing may or may...

Putting IRS in my 65 Mustang

Heidt's Allcarfan, Check the Reenmachine sticky on top. He has info on the Heidt's IRS install. For my install check my thread: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=656858&highlight=mustbereel It's not a strait forward installation and requires lots of fabrication. If your...

Putting IRS in my 65 Mustang

irs I know that tickle. I looked at the early Ford IRS, the modern Cobra stuff and finally settled on Heidt's. I love the idea of adapting the Jag IRS to your Mustang. I've finally had a chance to drive the car a little and although I haven't thrown it around much the differnce is huge. The car...

    1/4 mile and hp numbers

stroker Can't comment on going .040 over but I used the TMD 347 kit in a .030 289 with no problems yet. I haven't driven it much yet but I did plenty of research beforehand to see if it is o.k. to stroke a 289. The cylinder bore length is nominally 5" in both the 289 and 302.
