    Took silencer out...car sputering

While there tend to be a few schools of thought on this question, the consensus seems to be that it's not really bad for the engine, but not really good either. Gas grading is all about octane, which is a measurement of gas' resistance to engine knock/detonation/pre-ignition. Engines which...

    4.10's ...and I'm PIS**D Off!!!

I've heard (but am not sure) that rather than go to the trouble/expense/time of getting a CARB number for each and every part that alters car operation in some way, Ford figures it's easier to say "don't use it in your street car" and be done with it. Anyone know for sure?

    Redline damage?

Oh, that's right...sorry! Isn't it something to do with the rev limiter computer reading and controlling only throttle-induced rpms, and can't read a purely "mechanically induced" rpm burst that comes from a downshift?

    Redline damage?

You're fine. Rev limiters prevent any big, sudden damage by high rpms. Damage can occur though if you drive around at those rpms in 2nd gear all afternoon w/o shifting (like some of our ricer friends like to do). Don't do that. :D

    Took silencer out...car sputering

The air silencer-ectomy is a mostly a "trade off" mod I believe. Removing it will give you a few hp and a different sound, but at the expense of a few lost ft-lbs of torque at the low end. So decide which means more to you. Either way, it doesn't really change much so don't sweat it too much...

I'm ready to clean my engine

I'm in the same boat. I've been "spot cleaning" my engine up until now, which works but takes awhile and isn't entirely satisfying/effective. The owner's manual recommends you clean it, and even tells you what to cover. But I know people here have had problems... What to do? I'm...

    4.10's ...and I'm PIS**D Off!!!

Look at it this way: in 20 years, are you going to remember the $30 or the fun you had with your 4.10s? :nice:

    Lowering tha GT

Ford Racing's B and C springs are quality, inexpensive ways to get rid of the 4x4 look. They both drop the car up to 1.5" in the front and .75 in the back (if you don't cut the dead coils that is...) The B springs are progressive, so are softer on the street and better for drag racing, while...

Stock GT geared well/not so well for highway??

Double-clutching is a shifting technique from the days before synchromesh transmissions. It's not stictly necessary with a modern transmission, but some people still do it to reduce synchro wear and because it's fun. Basically, the idea is to match the engine rpms to the gear you're going...

    Ford Racing Catback?

Direct bolt-on, and the tailpiping is clamped to the tubing after the axle. I suppose you could have the whole thing welded (catback to midpipe, and tailpipes welded to catback) if you wanted, but not strictly necessary.

Upgrade GT brake pads - Thoughts?

I'm venturing into the world of road courses, and I know an important mod for successful open-tracking running is better brakes. Right now, I'm looking to upgrade the pads. From what I've read here, Hawk and Green Stuff are two popular choices. I'm leaning toward the Hawks (the HPS version)...

    Ford Racing Catback?

I love mine. It's noticably lounder than stock, and much deeper in tone...however, it's not Flowmaster loud. It's good for someone who wants more of a musclecar sound, but not something over the top. If you're considering Flowmasters/Magnapacks though, the FRPP system will likely be too...

    FRPP Speed Recalibrator?

...And the quality's usually pretty good as well. Or at least OEM (take that for what it's worth I suppose, but I've had good luck). I've got the FRPP catback on my '02, and will probably be installing FRPP B-springs soon.

    FRPP Speed Recalibrator?

Probably because they're fairly (like this year) new, that's all. :nice:

    I like Mach1 Gauges

Yeah, I know. I was thinking in terms of the style/font when I wrote that...sorry. I was kinda dissapointed that Ford didn't come out with a "new" retro design for the Mach 1 cluster, but rather used the Bullitt one with a revised redline on the tach.

    I like Mach1 Gauges

Mach 1 gauges were originally from the Bullitt anyway. I'd be interested to know where to get them too...does Ford sell them over-the-counter? Or is aftermarket the only way?

Did the GT exhaust change from '01-'02?

Also, do a search here for it and look for Bigconig's thread about it; he did some videos of his car with it, and it sounds great. Made me glad I got mine, all over again... :)

Did the GT exhaust change from '01-'02?

Yep, it fits. Have one on my 2002 GT. Interestingly, when I called the Ford Racing "help line", they told me "oh no, it's for '98 - '01s." Not satisfied (why would Ford change the exhaust from 2001 to 2002??), I called GEFracing...they said yes, it certainly does fit; we installed one...

To anyone with a flame kit

Be interesting to see what your local ricers think...they'll probably be surprised that this 1) works on a V8 rwd car and 2) was in fact NOT invented by the "Fast and the Furious"... :)

    Synthetic vs Regular oil

Just a note that if you use the motorcraft blend and filter, you don't necessarily need to change every 3000 miles. The 3000-mile rule is for vehicles driven in "severe duty" situations (or something like that)...like if you sit traffic every day or use the car as a pursuit vehicle ( :D )...
