65 bogs down and dies on highway

I doubt that this is it, but I had a problem where my car would just start chugging and eventually kill. It turned out to be the coil wire. It must have been arcing and heating up the wire because the insulation got real fat and pushed itself out of the coil (in effect disconnecting the wire...

    Buying a car without engine/tranny

65shelbyclone, I have a place real close by that I go to for original ford parts. It is basically a old Ford graveyard and the owner knows about as much as you can about these cars. Let me know if you need some hard to find parts. I can get you a quote on parts and shipping. I was just out...

    Buying a car without engine/tranny

nope didn't blow a motor :) thinking about buying a fixer upper convert for when the kids go to school. I've had enough stuff apart on mine that I think it would be fun to try my hand at fixing up. Also could use mine as a reference if I got a 65 or 66. I like the sound of that "few...

    Buying a car without engine/tranny

Anybody know what price range a guy might have to pay to get a decent running 289 and automatic transmission. Let's just say I'd be on a tight budget. Just wondering if I should consider buying the car or not. Thanks! P.S. also looking for insight on if someone has done this or not -...

    Fan or water pump?

Could you get a different spacer for behind the fan? I just changed my 13/16" spacer for a 2-5/8" spacer on my 289. Let me know if you need the shorty.

WTF??!! Why can't I find this?

I think 302 coupe might be onto something. I had mostly water in my system and had problems with overflowing when I shut the car off - even when the temp gauge wasn't past halfway. I just did a cooling system flush (and flush and flush and flush until the stuff coming out resembled clear...

    blue smoke

Thanks Dave. That makes me feel better. I'll keep an eye on the situation. I was driving it last weekend (see Minnesota Mustangs post) and went around cloverleaf and I heard, "tickety tick tick tick" and the oil light came on. It was back to normal after the hard turn so I pulled in to a...

    Harmonic balancer??

pbum, I thought you had a 289? The link shows this one is for 302, 351 - or will that one work for the 289 too? I like how that one looks.

WTF??!! Why can't I find this?

what year and model car? Also what engine size? Maybe your hose clamps weren't tight enough. I have 13 lb cap on my 65 that I just bought - it is a stant with the lever. Don't think the lever does anything except let the pressure out through the overflow line instead of steam burning...

    blue smoke

Well, flushed the radiator tonight and after the Prestone Flush stuff, I probably flushed it with plain water about 5 times before it ran out looking something like water. Anyway, while I had the car idling it seemed like there was drops of watery stuff spitting out the tailpipes. I figured...

    Fog Lamps on a 65

I still have the original non-gt grill but got the gt brackets. The did not fit perfectly so I had to alter them to fit. But got them on. They seem to look pretty good. Still have to rivet or screw the gt brackets to the top and bottom of my grill.

a slight lean on the driver side

my guess would be coil spring getting tired. Throw a new set on - they are only about $55 and you can borrow a spring compressor at your local Autozone for free. Might as well do the shocks too - they are even cheaper. P

    Fog Lamps on a 65

I got a set of repro fog lamps, bulbs, and bars. I am trying to figure out how they go. I think I have them together correctly, but is there really just one bolt and nut that hold the fixture to the bars? Seems like that would loosen up awfully quickly and be flopping around in no time...

    master cylinder swap questions

I feel much safer already!!! (and I still have to bleed the brakes) Got the 67 manual drum/drum master cylinder put on and plumbed tonight. In case someone in the future is looking for the specs on the adapters off the mc - here's what I found: Front hole for rear brakes is a 9/16 - I...

    master cylinder swap questions

K, I got the dual res master cylinder on. Plugged the hole where the rears plug into the dist block. Bent the front line so it is pointing right at the outlet on the mc closest to the rear of the car. Still wondering if anyone can tell me what size hole and threads that hole is? I need...

    master cylinder swap questions

I have a 65 with drums in all four corners and a single reservor master cylinder. I bought a dual res drum/drum mc off a 67 from a friend (thanks Carlos!). 1. Do I need to change the pushrod? I've seen posts that indicate the length is not the same between these years. 2. I think I...
