The Truth about FOX FRONT BRAKES!

sorry latham83, but the butt-o-meter is highly inaccurate and doesn't hold much weight around here. if you can give me factual test results of decreased braking distance i'm sold, until then i'll stick with solid rotors. -steve

The Truth about FOX FRONT BRAKES!

     wow, this thread is priceless. not only does custom89stang come out flaming but does so with very limited/incorrect info. then he proceeds to request factual testing info regarding solid vs slotted/drilled, and backs up his beliefs with statements like...

    19s on a foxbody?

OMG that is 100 times uglier than i could ever have imagined. makes me ill just to see it. :barf: -steve

    19s on a foxbody?

to each their own.... but IMHO 18's are the biggest you can tastefully go on a fox. truthfully on the fox i think 18's are still a little to big and i personally would not go larger than 17's. if it were an sn95 18's would look good, but still not 19's. muscle cars don't look good with huge...

    Griggs GR40 suspension kits

Griggs would probably be my first choice. either their watts link or torque arm systems will be a drastic improvement over stock. MM comes in at a very close second with their t/a. i would not hesitate to buy either (if i had the money :() -steve BTW-check out griggs site, they have...

    what to go with?

FWIW the MM sfc are designed to work with their t/a so the aforementioned hacking/cutting isn't necessary (assuming you ever want a t/a setup). IMHO you should save the $30, get the bare metal sfc's and after they're welded in place just give it a nice shot of black tremclad. that is unless...

    4 banger 5 speed?

as stated the tranny will work with the appropriate pilot bearing. it may or may not last depending how you use it. i've had mine (4cyl t-5) in for about 2yrs now without a single complaint from it. it still shifts better than the stock t-5 when i got the car. the only thing i would change...

    please help!

it would start on top of the piston but i would *think* that on the compression stroke a portion of it would be forced into the crankcase. from there it will eat your bearings like the cookie monster on chips ahoy. -steve

    Powerslot brake rotors??

this was true in the past, but the new pads are much better. it is actually the surface area of the rotor which absorbs the heat, therefore any reduction in pad-to-rotor contact (ie slots/holes) will reduce braking effectiveness. beyond this slotted/drilled rotors are more prone to cracking...

    Powerslot brake rotors??

listen to matt. the rotors will actually hurt your braking. IMHO you should get the pads/sleeves/lines/fluid and just stick with a SOLID rotor. go check out matt's site about brakes. you will learn a lot. -steve edit: by solid i mean vented, but not drilled/slotted.

    please help!

it could. if you think it may be leaking inside you could always bypass the coolant tubes on your egr spacer. how long did you run it while puffing white? -steve edit: my bad, i re-read your previous post and saw 5minutes. have you looked down the t/b to see if there are any visible...

    please help!

did you change the gasket as well? if not it is probably leaking antifreeze into your intake. get it fixed before it "fixes" you. it is possible that you only got a bit in there and it just burnt off (if you're lucky) but i'd change the gasket to be safe. -steve

Help: Car feels like it lost power

the ONLY thing i can think of, and it's a stretch, would be a slipping clutch. the reason i say this is two-fold: 1) you state a power loss 2) only a change in gearing should alter your cruise rpms at a given speed. that is to say if your car has actually lost power it shouldn't rev...

Things to like about the 05

i'm most impressed with the improved weight bias on the new car as well as the 3-link rear suspension. this mustang is going to be worlds better than the '04. also like: more power and most of the styling. -steve

    Good Mustang Story

hhaha, guys like that a great source of entertainment. a buddy of mine used to work at the peace bridge (international crossing b/w fort erie, ontario and buffalo, new york) and worked with this guy that said his car was a 93 cobra. i was like "damn, i need to see it...NOW" as i've not been...

What exactly does detonation hurt in an engine?

it really depends on the severity of detonation and the parts being used. slight detonation caught early could have no noticable effect. as it worsens you could start to melt electrodes of your spark plugs, burn holes in pistons, break connecting rods, chew main/rod bearings to sh**. when...
