289 vs 5.0 Oil Pump Differences

Same pump for all, just different pickup tubes and pans. The HD pump drive for the TFI distributors are different too, but this is the turned down portion at the top end being longer for the longer distributor shafts.

    Motor Interchange

Your car had a 10.5 to 1 compression ratio 390.(flat topped pistons with 4 valve reliefs) Same engine was used in the other Ford/Merc car applications but with different heads and sometimes intake (2 bbl instead of a 4 bbl) As for sticking with the stock iron intake, I wouldn't. These...

    Ford FE Dipstick

FE's always had the stick in the block, just behind the oil filter adapter. But if you don't have the factory dipstick tube, you'll have to make one or use the one with the pan.

    Help With My 69

If your distributor is working 180* off the factory specs, then it's 180* off from where it's supposed to have the rotor pointing at TDC. In anycase, good luck with it. I'm done trying to 'splain it to you. ;)

    Help With My 69

Apparently not cause you're here asking for advice. :rlaugh: Your distributor is 180* off. Put your #1 piston at TDC on the firing stroke, then look to see where the rotor is pointing.

    Help With My 69

I'll bet he's got the distributor 180* off. As Brian said, you can align the cam dot at 6 or 12 o'clock, it's the same either way.

8.8 into 70 mustang driveshaft flange question

Ok, the Fox Body Stang shafts run anywhere from 45-46" long, ctr to ctr. The 2004 shaft I have in my 77 Comet is 45.75". Based on your measurements, that's what you need to make it work. Use your FMX yoke as is. If it doesn't fit the Fox Stang U joints, there are combination joints that will fit...

8.8 into 70 mustang driveshaft flange question

No way an 8.8 is 6" longer (in front) than a 9". :nono: And no, a 9" yoke doesn't fit an 8.8 pinion. You need the actual driveshaft measurements, not a guess here, for us to help. I would have kept the 9" too. The strength factor is more important than the alleged HP loss. Th e40 year old thing...

electric vacuum pump for power brakes and big cams

Have you tried the brakes without the electric pump ? You didn't list what engine you have in your sig, only the parts it's got. My 331 was fine without a booster pump in my 89 Ranger. 331, Canfield heads, Ford Z303 cam w/1.7 rockers (228* @050 with a .587 lift hydro roller) 3x2 high rise dual...

    Hedman 88308's on a 67 with Toploader?

:nice: I'm running Tri-Y's with a Toploader. But this is in an 89 Ranger.:D Mostly the clutch linkage is the sticking point with headers in a classic Stang, not the transmission. Headers (4 into 1's)for a manual trans have the tubes routed around (both sides of the Z bar) to clear the linkage.

    1967 unidentified foot lever

:nono: Why is it there ? :rlaugh: Because way back when, someone figured out that a person's left foot didn't have any function in operating a car. Soooooooo............................they thoughtfully placed the dimmer switch and intermittant wiper control down there so your left foot would...

1971 351 oil pan conversion question - help?

I said it screws in , but that was an assumption. If it lacks threads and the tube fits, Wear it.

1971 351 oil pan conversion question - help?

That's for a screw in dipstick tube. The hole itself (the cutout portion in the pan)was originally for a low oil sender.

    School me on distrubutors..

If it's on the timed port, you shouldn't have noticed an increase in idle speed when you hooked it up. Recheck everything. Alot can happen after a year with the engine out.

    School me on distrubutors..

Could be your vacuum advance isn't working at all. Have you checked it ? Where on the carb is it connected ? A simple way to test it is to remove the distributor cap and unplug the hose from the carb and then while sucking on the hose, look inside the distributor and verify that the vacuum lever...

    Heads...Stockers OK?

The first thing to consider in running a bigger cam with the stock heads (that haven't had any mods done to them) is the stock pressed in rocker studs. Anything bigger than about a Comp 268H will work the pressed in studs out of the heads. Next is the very limited exhaust flow of the stock...

Fuel injection VS carb. 500hp engine.

It's plain to me that you're one of those guys who when they DO run a carb, they pick one that's too big for 90% of driving on the street. I used to do that, but now I pickem on the small side. This gives you EFI like throttle resonse and fuel mileage My 331 gets 16 MPG, cruising at 80 mph...

Holley VS Edlebrock. 750cfm on street engine.

Back in the mid 80's when I had my 427 Stang (big block, not a stroker small block) I completely rebuilt the front suspension with all new parts and 428CJ Vert springs up front. Also went with 71-72 Stang front discs front, Versailles rear discs. This car was completely comfortable cruising at...
